PC That could run Gears of war like the 360?

I wonder how much it would cost to build a pc that could run gears as well as the 360 does.. I have to say I am impressed with the power of the 360, anybody have any comments on this? I guess we will have some idea when Unreal tournament 2k7 comes out for pc..

I think that a PC with an 8800 and hardware to match could run it at 1300 x 768 or whatever 720p resolution is.

It is the Unreal 3 engine right? So we should see when Unreal 2007 is released. My guess is that the top end PC will run it at a higher res. than the 360 runs at and it will be good.

do you really need somethng as powerful as an 8800? I'm sure you can do something similar with something much cheaper.

x1900xtx or 8800gts would be the 'minimum' for "similar".

Aye, and when it does, it will be such a sloppy port that you will need SLI 8800s in order to play it.

From what I've seen of Gears of War, its not that visually impressive. A decent dual core system and a X1900XT 256 or GF7900GT should play it without problems. It will be a sloppy port though, so as to highlight the X360s 'power'

From what I've seen of Gears of War, its not that visually impressive. A decent dual core system and a X1900XT 256 or GF7900GT should play it without problems. It will be a sloppy port though, so as to highlight the X360s 'power'

like I mentioned earlier, we'll all see when the Unreal 3 engine makes it's appearance on the PC.

EDIT: the scene in Act 3 before you head down the mines with the rain outdoors would beat down all but the fastest PC IMO.

Well since it's Epic, I'd say not very half asses, they will likely try and do a damned good job of it.
I don't remember Pariah being a bad port. Bad game, yes. Bad port/cross platform game, not so much. The Unreal Engines are designed to run well on whatever platform, for th emost part.

It should be a good port. Supposedly, porting to and from the XBox360 shouldn't be as messy as last generation.

this is true. since it is the U3 engine, porting shouldn't be very messy at all.

I dont think it has been announced for pc, dont know if it ever will be, but Epic has to know they could make a lot of money doing a pc version. I really dont know why it would be a sloppy port, that would only hurt sales and hurt there reputation..

But for my positive contribution to this thread, I imagine an 8800 would do just fine, and I _suspect_ the 8600, whenever that gets released, could handle it, too.

Hehe. I've got my 360 connected to a 50 inch plasma. Nothing on the PC compares. I mean it's just hilarious to even consider. I've got FEAR running on a very fast PC system (see sig) with details turned way up.....eh, nope. Oblivion.....sorry. And I'll just add, a plasma has no ghosting, no delay/response issues (ouch, LCD owners ) and the shadow detail is superb. Visually, nothing I've played approaches GoW.

I can only assume that he played it on a standard definition black and white handheld TV or something.

Pretty much anyone that has played the game on an HDTV will tell you that Gears Of War has the best graphics of ANY game on any platform. Its not even close. You may not care for the game but the graphics are sick.

Well GOW is next gen engine so of course nothing will compare untill UT2007 is released. Saying anything looks as good or better right now is just dumb. If the game was optimized I think a 7xxx Nvidia and 18xx/19xx ATI series could pull it off with 2gb and a x2/C2D at as good detail.

BTW Fear didn't look much impressive on its release day. Good game but other than effects and crap flying everywhere it just didn't look to hot compared to HL2,Doom 3 engine,Farcry,ect

I'v been converted to the dark side. I played Gears at my friends house with a 360 and nothing on pc can compare to what I saw with my eyes. Sorry poor 6800GT, no upgrade for you, Xbox 360 bundle here I come!
