i was asked to troubleshoot a problem where the phones had just been changed over from AT&T to the cable company. the community has a gate that was being updated from a laptop using a robotics external modem. after the change over to the cable company they were no longer able to communicate with the gate. the gate is some distance away and has its own phone number still with at&t. when dialed into from a land line it can be updated. the laptop does dial out, i was able to call my cell phone. so the problem appears to be a translation issue when trying to send data from the laptop through the cable companies phone modem to the gate. does anyone know of a work around for this problem short of buying another phone line from at&t, or replacing the gate. there is not a conduit from the building to the gate.
