How old/crappy is PC100 Memory?

Very old, that's P2 era stuff... PC133 should be easier to find and will work in its place though.

I'm confuzzed, does pc 1oo fit and work in pc133 slots?

PC66/100/133 are all interchangable. They will run at the speed of the slowest module but PC133 is quite happy being down-clocked.

... but you can't run PC100 RAM in a system that requires PC133. The other way round is fine.

Compatibility problems stem from chipset limitations, mainly in what capacity the RAM chips may have. For example, most 1st generation SDRAM chipsets don't do more than 128 megabits per chip.

No, not always. Look at what Peter posted. I've seen boards here at work that have silkscreened on them, "PC-133 MEMORY ONLY".

Best bet is to go to the websites of Kingston, Corsair, or Crucial, and look up your board to see what they recommend. Then try to find it elsewhere cheaper.

Usually you can interchange them but some boards are picky and freak out. I have a old P2 with both pc100 and pc133, it just down-clocked the pc133 and away she went.
