PC2700 DDR - Corsair vs Samsung?

Folks, which of the following would you recommend for the best OCing performance on a MSI 845 Ultra-ARU?

Corsair CMX512-2700C2 512MB CAS2.0 ($178 Newegg)
or
Samsung DDR333 PC-2700 512mb CAS2.5 ($150 Newegg)

I have heard great things about both on this and other forums, but notice the Samsung is CAS2.5 while the Corsair is CAS2.0. The cost is not an issue to me, I am only concerned with which one will perform the best.

both are good.

the Corsair XMS2700 runs CAS 2/2/2/6 by SPD specs tho.
mine is running 350DDR and is still @ CAS 2/2/2/6 by SPD, @ 2.5v too.

well people are saying that the samsung only runs cas 2.5 and not 2 at 266....i would suggest the corsair at such a small price difference. (ordered mine from newegg last night )

I was able to run the Samsung @ 2-2-2 @ 166/DDR333

What have you heard about the Mushkin DDR2700? I haven't got my unit together yet and bought Mushkin because I know they have a great reputation.

I've run Samsung PC2700 @ cas2 @ 368DDR. It may go higher, but I never tried. DDR400 needs cas 2.5.

I haven't heard anything about Mushkin...but I know they are probably the BEST out there...but I need more out of my Mushkin Hi Perf...too bad i didn't get the Level 2 one...I should've...if you are going to get the PC2700...why not get the Level 2...review shows it can do CAS 2 at 185MHz...2.5 at 200MHz = DDR400 easy...

That Googlegear Samsung is not Samsung memory sticks. It is an OEM using Samsung chips. I have seen posts where people have not had good luck with it. Newegg sells Samsung original. I've used it and also got some very good OEM Samsung memory from Dallasmemory. It worked just as well as the Samsung original from Newegg.

well, i got my corsair ram and it turns out its a dud...bluescreen at 333 (2.66) but system runs fine at 266 with nothign else changed....now i have to rma my ram and wait a few more days to test my system capibilities.

i have full confidence that the corsair will own when i finally get a non-defective stick =)

Hi Folks,

Glad I caught this thread. About to build a new PC and thinking of using the 478-pin P4 (1.7/1.8) in conjunction with the Abit IT7 motherboard. I may consider OCing this but do not know how OC-friend the combination is. In either event, I am looking for which best memory to get for OC-ing activities. I do not mind paying $175-225 for a 512MB stick of good DDR, and was wondering if the PC3000/3200 is worth it for future upgrade considerations (especially since this board will do 533MHz). As such, can someone safely suggest some memory that they have used with success on the 333/400MHz DDR side of the world?

BTW, I'm a little clueless when it comes to OC-ing and memory CL classes. How/what should I look for in a primer for memory and OC-ing activities. Anyone write a FAQ for memory for this purpose (to educate the stupid in OCing, from a memory perscpective)?
