PCchips M810LR-XP v7.1A---Specs. Questions

With it an Athlon 1.33(c)gig. I can use PC133, right? Can I use (64x4) High Density PC133? Got a pretty good price on: Infineon-PC133-CAS 2.5-512MBx2-(64x4)-High Density-High Quality- non ECC- unbuffered- Brand New w/Lifetime warranty for $40 ea. Ebay Store promised compatibility, so i hope i dont have to return them. Why is 64x4 better than say, 32x8 Low Density anyway? Also, What kind of HDDs' can i use ? How can I tell what specs of the HDD i have now are ?, my Everest Home Edition & Belarc Advisor just say: 40G- Generic IDE Disk type 47 ?. And last; Suggestions for an AGP Card for <$100 ?, <$150 ?, around $200 ??? Prefer NOT to have a LOUD Fan. Please Advise & Thank You SORRY FOR THE DRY READING: Couldn't figure out the Special Buttons...

Download the mb manual from PcChips site to answer most of your questions. Why would you put a $200 vid card in such a low end rig?

It won't hurt anything. Besides, he can still use the card should he ever upgrade the rig. Although it would be a good idea to put that money into better mobo/CPU/RAM.

Are you locked into the listed setup? If not, get a better one. If so, don't spend more than $50-75 on the vid card and put that money in the bank for when you get a better computer.

The Computer: Athlon 1.33c, 266fsb, PCchips M810LR MB, Win98SE, 384MB PC133(has now), 40G HD, 8xCD Rom(16x maybe needed), floppy, PCI bus to PCMCIA Adapter w/ PC Card V620 allowing Wireless Internet. I bought this from a friend (homebuild) for $200 fully operational w/ all Software. I'll use this while building a 64bit AMD.( didn't have a computer) I like the Star Wars Games like KOTOR2, which i played on a family members 1.4gig Intel w/ a 9550SE Sapphire. Ran fine at lowest setting. To continue playing My games, I need to get decent performance out of this Computer while building the other. The 9550SE was just too small, the 256MB-9550 would be the "cheapest" minimum, suggestions ??? 384MB is too little, so I bought the Infineon Memory (thought that was a good price)(is Infineon anygood?). CAN 64x4 HIGH DENSITY memory be run on this MB(SIS730S)??? That I definetly need to know. Ebay Store owner said yes, but I'd like another opinion or two. Can you help me with that answer??? I have the actual M810 v7.1B USERS MANUAL. It doesn't explain if 64x4 High Density Memory can be used or not. I bought the Memory thinking it was a good price, then again I'm pretty new to Computering. Infineon CAS2.5 anygood? Being that I've already bought the Memory(its in transit) before i open it up i need to know if It will work with my Chipset (SIS730S), Ebay Stores configurator claimed compatibility w/SIS630 which sounds to be linked to SIS730 ???. I'll return it for Low Density if i need to. What kind of performance increase you get out of Higher Density Memory i dont know, may not be worth the headache??? Thanks for answering the Thread

I have the version 7.0a of that motherboard and have had 2 problems with it.

I had a low density 256mb stick and a high density one in it. Whilst it would let me run and install windows removing the high density stick stopped windows crashing so much. I don't know if 2 high density sticks together would be fine but it certainly didn't like them being mixed with low density ram. Cas 2.5 is about average by the way. I'm going to salavage 2 low density dimms from another machine to get it running smoothly.

Secondly I had serious problems moving from the onboard graphics to a discrete vga card on it. The problems seem to be with the sis agp driver and the microsoft one seems more stable. It seemed to be ok with a geforce 2mx but i replaced that with a 9200se as the fan was failing on the mx and my dad wanted better image quality (as well as a dvi port for a future tft). With the sis agp drivers i couldn't install the radeon drivers without crashing the machine. So i'm going to get a new fan for the mx card and pop it back in. Seems it doesn't like 8x agp cards even when they revert back to lower 4x etc. Another thing, with the radeon I can't get the power management to function correctly. Mind you for all I know it may be a sis/ati compatability issue.

Hope this gives you an idea of what might limitations of this board. I have revision 7.0a so don't know what improvements they made to the board.

By the the way crockman try and space out what you type more so that it's easier to read. Use the return key and try and paragraph key points. For example the components of your pc would be better displayed as a list.

Did you ever try the search feature in this Forum. If you type in PCchips & M810 put both these in All of these words & any of these words, hit search you'll come up with some pretty interesting reading on PCChips MBs' dating back to 2001. When your reading through that stuff you'll come across a thread saying something like " SIS730S does anybody know if its out yet" maybe not exactly those words. Its a thread sometime in 2001. Read That.

You'll come across a link to PCchips lottery(I was suprised the link still works and the Web site still exists). Navigate through there to "The PCChips Lottery BBS" Home Page; if your still running these old PCchips MBs' you've got to get there. Its a web site of about 8,000 members that talk about Nothing-but-PCChips.

The Moderator of "The Lottery" said that the Memory would work fine. As for a Graphics Card I was thinking in terms of a 9550-256MB-128bit memory or bigger. I had a 9550SE-128MB-64bit that i put into and ran KOTOR2 on my sisters computer(Intel 1.4gig). At Very Lowest setting it would run if you shut off all other programs including Background Processes.

My revision v7.1A allows the use of Athlon XPs' up to 2200+ but only the Palomino Core. 200/266 FSB, PC133 2x512MB 1Gig total, AGP 4x

Why is High Density Memory better than Low Density???

Installed the 64x4 High Density-Infineon Memory. Everything works so far.

128MB or 256MB Video Cards. Anybody know what works in the M810-v7.1A ???
