Thanks for the benches. It does confirm how light Witcher 3 is on the CPU. Amazingly so given the recent trend of games to be CPU bottlenecked, particularly open world style games.

The Witcher 3 can max out my i5 2500k in cities and cause GPU usage to drop. I'm at 1440p

I am still early in the game, but it seems less cpu demanding than DA:I. Or maybe it just seems that way because it is very gpu demanding. It is the first game i cannot get 30fps at 1080p, lowest settings, with a HD7770. W3 at lowest settings, i get high 20s st 1080p , all low, while in DA:I I could get low 30s with a mixture of low/med. I am not sure which game looks better.

A 7770 isn't going to cut it for 1080p given that the PS4's GPU is better and running at 1080p30.

I'm still laughing at those kids who are still proclaming proudly about "HT is uselezz for gamingz, pay more to overclokz the i5" meme.

It's true if you just pick some other test. 3570K 40 fps, 3770K 41 fps, matches perfectly with the clockspeed difference.

I wonder where that test was done at in the witcher 3. Would love to see some Novigrad testing.

7770's 640 stream processors are clocked 1000 MHz.

Xbox One 768 stream processors are clocked at 853 Mhz.

So they come out very close on GPU power.

But approaching PS4 capability requires a 7850, even though you can match it's GFLOPS with a Bonaire based product, but you're still stuck with half the ROPs.

I know HD7770 is low end now. I was just commenting that W3 is the most gpu demanding game I have played yet, and uses a lot less cpu than DA:I. I suppose I will have to upgrade at some point, but it plays older games fine, and I am not interested in any current gen games except for DA:I and W3. Sound terrible, but there are not any games on the horizon that interest me enough to make me want to spend 200 to 300 dollars on a new gpu. And actually, I would not have bought W3 until it went on sale, but I got it for free with a gaming laptop purchase I made for my grandson. I have to say though, I am pleasantly surprised at the game compared to the first 2 games, neither of which I could get into at all. Good or bad, seems to play more like a "convetional" rpg.

From the testing I've done The Witcher 3 is more CPU intensive than Dragon Age:I.

@pslord

What kind of GPU usage are you seeing in Novigrad? I get 99% percent everywhere except for when I enter cities. Cpu pegs to the max and GPU usage drops. Of course, my i5 2500k is only @4.0 vs your 4.8.

Hello my friend.

Sorry for the late reply but I was out of town for a few days, hence away from my 2500+970 system.

I took these Novigrad area screenshots with OSD for you, in the hopes they will help.

2500k@4.3Ghz (yes 4.3, I rarely use anything higher for real life gameplay), 970@1.5Ghz turbo, framerate capped at 60fps with MSI Afterburner, Ultra settings, no blur,no hairworks, no vignette, patch 1.6, forceware 353.06.

Also note that I was uploading my Kite demo benchmark on Youtube, so shave off around 5% from each cpu percentages as well.

Overall, the game runs fine in the vast majority of the time.
