ok i am stuck with the 810 motherboard and the intel 3d chip sucks getting 40 fps in quake 3 at the lowest setting its time for an upgrade. ok since i am stuck with pci i have 2 options the voodoo5 pci or the radeon le pci version (which was to come out thic month). i clearly understand that the voodoo 5 is better and faster but less support. but you can argue that the 3dfx drivers are better then the ati ones. also wondering how the radeon will perform in pci caz i know the radeon comes in mac's in pci how dose it perform. caz if it only like 10% slower then the ddr version thats not bad at all with tv out i would go for the radeon. finally the price here in toronto the voodoo5 is still selling for 299 adn the radeon pci will be selling for under 200 so thats 100 more reasons to go radeon. any ways just wondering what the guys with 810 motherboards can get for good 3d performance, btw i have a 800 intel processer...

ok i love 3dfx i am old school still have my monster3d card here loved it and will always love 3dfx and when i was getting my system a few months ago i was planing on the voodoo5 pci so never got a mother board with an agp port, but as you allllll know there have been changes in the voodoo world. so now i would still get the voodoo 5 but this radeon product looks good but i am yet to find a review on it anywhere on the net can you guys help. and i dont really thin there will be that big of a performance hit for the radeon i pci i think maybe 10-15% slowere which is still fast even compaired to the 3dfx( not as fast as voodoo5 but up there with it).

I say Radeon because not only does the 3dfx card have little support it has NO support. You'll be searching for homemade driver fixes the next time you buy a game and it doesn't work. At least the ATI is a work in progress with the Voodoo what you see is what you get.

ATi has horrid driver support.

I'd argue that the x3dfx support for the V5 is better than ATi's (sorry I was burned on my Radeon becuase of drivers and I sold it, and I'm still being burned on my TV-wonder becuase of drivers, I seriously doubt I'll ever send money ATi's way again).

Besides the current Voodoo5 driver (v1.04) are excellent. And x3dfx has already said they'll produce WinXP drivers if the Win2k WDM Drivers don't work. I think by the time you have any driver issues any current card is going to look so old and feeble it won't be worth having anymore

Think about this, a company with no driver support or a company with hardly any driver support. Take your pick.

You could get a GeForce2 MX PCI. It might not be as fast as a voodoo5, but it is cheaper. My friend just bought one for about $120 shipped and it works great for him.

edit: here is a link for you. This place is where my friend bought his card only he got the basic card with no TV out or twinview.

Noriaki, you still haven't changed, have you? ATi has gone a far way with their drivers. Did you try out their new ones?

I think I would rephrase that as The company with no new driver support but current fully functional drivers available, versus a company that never has produced decent drivers and possibly never will. I still like the Voodoo 3 3000 PCI that resides in MY 810 chipset motherboard. It sucks to be "AGP Challenged", but IMO the Voodoo 5 would be the way to go. I have seen the AGP version for as low as $137 in the US, but haven't seen the PCI version for much under $200.

All your PCI bases belong to 3dfx.

Or put more intelligently, 3dfx makes the best PCI cards. Period.
And the Voodoo 5 5500 is the best PCI card currently available.

v5 5500 pci, and are you sure you can find a cheaper place to buy the V5 in US that would ship to Toronto? 299 is very "outragous"

and about the driver issue, despite 3dfx went out of business, Creative is gonna pick up what's left... meaning it could MAKE DRIVERS for V5 too!

ok i agree the v5 pci is the best choice but again its hard to find the pci version for a good price i am willing to pay between 150-250 canadian for the voodoo5 pci, so if any of you guys know where i can pcik one up even if its from the states as long as thay ship to canada. and btw how much dose the v5 sell for at regular computer stores in buffalo since its only a 2 hour drive away. and finally it seems like i am the only one who has even heard of the ati radeon pci version card .... you telling me there is no body on the web who has seen a review of the product... or dose it just not exist , but i am sure it dose caz on the ati site thay do have it listed.......

Voodoo5 is the best in PCI. No question about it. The current drivers are great, so that isn't much of a problem. When it comes to PCI, the Voodoo5 loses virtually no speed. I'd definitly take the Voodoo5 in this situation.

Radeon gets my vot for sure. I have never had any trouble with driver support compared to Nvidia who broke my system. Personally I totally dislike Voodoo through previous experiance and if i were you i'd stay well clear.

Hey Romtech, I am in Toronto too, I went to ComputerCity last week(coz they are closing down). The clearance sales is not exactly cheap but I saw a V5 for under $200. I am not sure if it is a PCI Card, maybe u should go check it out.
