After Running SiSoft sandra's system tweaking thingy, I noticed a problem was shown to me that I really didnt understand:

<<< PCI, AGP, CardBus Buses Information >>>
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Warning W1206: Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) AMD-762 CPU to AGP Bridge
(AGP 4x) : PCI latency too high. Device could hog the
bus for too long.
Warning W1206: Bridgecom Inc Linksys LNE100TX Fast Ethernet Adapter :
PCI latency too high. Device could hog the bus for too
long.

What does it mean?! Its and scary message that I reall dont like! Can anyone tell me how to fix it? PC spec are below

Tyan TigerMP
2x AMD AthlonXP 1.4ghz
512megs DDR
Promise Fasttrack 100 TX2
2x 20gig Quantam 5400rpm HDDs
Linxsys Ethernet Card (apparently its a problem)
PNY Geforce3 Ti 500
SB Audibgy

That's Helpful

I'm not sure if the tiger uses a via chipset but if it does you might be able to use the pci latency patch from this site

http://www.viahardware.com/?PageID=2

Good luck

they use an amd southbridge
you can mess with the latency timer in the bios - set it higher for the pci slot with the linksys (yes, you can manipulate the slots individually)

The information Sandra gives is inaccurate for late model motherboards using high bandwidth connections to the southbridge. Because the potential PCI bandwidth is much greater, PCI devices are allowed more time on the bus, this allows them to use the extra bandwidth.
In short - don't worry about it.

I have a similar problem on my system, mine gives the same error message. When I run the drive benchmark I only get 17,500 with a Maxtor D740x. Why is the score so low? Any Ideas? My dad's system which has the same chipset gets 24,000 pts with the D740x and a clean install of Windows XP home with NTFS.

I can no longer use Netgear

Not to be an ass, and I hate it, but I can't understand anyone in tech support. They have extremely heavy accents and I just simply can't understand what they are saying.

I used to buy only their stuff, but the last 3 or 4 times I've called I haven't been able to understand what the guys are saying.

Sorry Netgear

I had the same problem recently with Netgear.
So I asked the "tech guy" where he was located?
He answered "New Dehli"
I said "New Dehli"? Where is that?
He said INDIA!!!!!
I then asked "were some tech calls routed there"?
He answered ALL tech calls are routed there, as part of a service contract with Netgear.

Welcome to Globalization.

And as far as the PCI latency prob:
Nvidia cards all come set at 248 clock cycles to hold onto bus. When you add a a card like SB live which
also has 248 (out of 256) then you have too much waiting going on causing pops ticks and noise. Or
people having problems on internet game playing (freezes, BSODs, drop to desktop etc.-- streaming
audio-video)
The way the computer protects itself from harm when too much stuff is trying to go thru too small a pipe.
This is also why when you change from 4X to 1X AGP it solves a lot of problems. Altering the AGP driving
value also sometimes fixes things by changing the Video card timing. And nvidia is constantly making
drivers more and more "agressive". Thats also why switching back to 12.40's (which XP loads in install)
"works".
Isn't it interesting that MS didn't put latest 20 series drivers in XP?
I once thought about rewriting the bios codes to lower latency in nvidia and sell it, but once written, it
would be all over the net in seconds. Besides, if people lost 100 pts in 3DMark, they would freak. (Even
tho their system wouldn't run reliably the "old" way).
There are several people on Viaarena who have fixed all their lockups/freezes by using TweakBios to
change PCI latency (overall) which is an old program not rated for todays chipsets, but still appears to
work on some combos. Powerstrip can also change PCI latency per card by adding lines in pstrp.ini field
in Windows system. If you look real close on their faqs page it'll show you how. Changing PCI latency
(individually) to 64 or 0 seems to work best on GF3.
I was happy to hear about the new mobo like the Epox 4DSA+ which have a SEPARATE (Sis 645A2)
channel (dual) for AGP. But alas, the new GF4 cards will prob puke up that bandwidth also, but we'll have
to wait and see.
