PCI Latency

Hello, folks!

Could anyone tell me how PCI latency works. My mobo (A7N266-E) has it at 32 by default, though I've heard it might not be an optimal setting. Is it better to have it higher or lower, and why? Any insight would be most appreciated.

I would be intrested in knowing about the PCI latency option as well.

Another question: Should I apply that PCI latency patch that improves IDE performance or something? I have an ASUS A7V KT133.

I don't even have any ISA slots on my mobo.

I just got the wind of an interesting thread elsewhere. It appears nForce based motherboards are not affected by the PCI latency that much, if at all, due to the architectural differences.

PCI Latency has to do with the amount of "time" a PCI device can "hog" the bus. I'd leave it at 32, unless you're experiencing problems with a particular device. VIA chipsets, in particular, often require a higher setting -- especially with RAID/SCSI adapters and sound cards.

I wonder how this affects me as i have both U160 SCSI HD's and Ide raid.
Would i benefit from upping my PCI latency?
What are you risking by doing this?
Data corruption?

So the higher the latency you set the longer a PCI device can have command of the bus?

I bet they arent cheap, yeah?
Those were the days. Typing in programs from magazines and writing your own.
Nothing on a plate like it is now
I skipped the Spectrum and went straight to the Commodore 64.
I had more fun with that 64 than ive ever had since with any of my puters.
Wish id kept it now

I've found a very nice program called PCItimer that lets me change the latencies of all my PCI devices. Should I increase them all to 64, 128, 248 for better stability and general performance (and less audio static [Ak35GTR mobo]), or should I move them all down to 16, or even lower?
