PCI Video Problem

My father has an old computer with a Pentium 166MMX. His old card wasn't useable (it was an old VESA card) so we had to use a real old card when assembling it (old isa Trident 512KB 2d). Looking for a cheap PCI replacement we happened upon a 8MB Trident Blade3D card. However this card just doesn't seem to like the idea of working in this system.

I've tried changing every setting I thought was relevant in BIOS, and I stripped out all other unnecessary peripherals but the card just doesn't initialize on boot up. The card is known to be good because it works when plugged into another system. All other parts in this system seem to have no problems, and I can't think of anything else to do in attempt to get this card working. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

System config:
Pentium 166MMX
Aopen AP5TC rev1.0 mainboard
Jaton Video-107PCI (Trident Blade3D 9880 chipset -rCADE 3D/2D accelerator)

i was also having a problem with a video card,

fiddle with the card a bit, what happened in my case was that my ABIT mobo fit in the case snug, but the slot was off from the screw on point(the screw to hold the PCI card in place) therefore, it wouldnt initialize, it would go into stanby mode, when everything else in my computer was running.

so what i did was just puch the card down a bit, and what do you know, it booted. When i put the screw in(connecting the card to the case), the screw doesnt cover the whle metal piece on the card but it works.

man, difficult to explain, wish i had a camera and scanner for pictures.

so who knows, ma be the same problem. give it a shot.

good luck,

Unfortunately I already tried that, although I could probably be a little more forcefull with it now that I now that that could be the problem (your description sounds about right, and I have a good idea of what you're talking about, pics wouldn't be neccesary). I also didn't remember this before but was reminded:

I tried to boot using both cards, and sure enough, Windows found the new card with no problem, but as usual there was no video output from the new card. Oh, and I've also tried using every PCI slot on the board.
