I really am NOT looking forward to recent developments around a PCI-E SATA standard. You know why? Because I have older computers that I try to keep running.
If the majority of the market moves to some new post-SATA interface, then SATA drives are going to get expensive and rare, just like IDE is now.
In fact, I went looking for a 500GB IDE drive the other night (checking prices, since I still have one BNIB), and found out that it appears that WD has actually stopped mfg the 500GB model, and is only mfg'ing the lower-capacity models like the 320GB. The only place that I could find selling new ones, was third-party sellers on Amazon.com for $200.
These things are like Gold now. Will higher-TB SATA drives become the same?
