Intel has been sending out ES samples which are far superior than the retail chips.

Back to its old tricks.

4.2ghz and 15c hotter at stock! than ES sample chips sent for review.

http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/382267/intel-haswell-hotter-and-slower-than-expected

I was looking for a haswell build and now im going to wait to see what happens.

The original thread title was not at all descriptive, so it has been corrected

Well, mislead partners who make boutique overclocked products. At least those companies feel mislead enough to gripe about the difference.

Now if the Intel reddit AMA was company approved, that would include people at large into the mislead category.

People should not be reviewing ES Samples. Period.

This kind of thing needs to stop. Retail chips in sealed boxes should be used to review a product. Especially the K series chips.

If Intel deliberately misled us, which is looking more and more likely, what is to stop them from cherry picking which retail chips they send to reviewers?

Nothing. Thats why the chips should be purchased from retail.

But ES samples should not be used. At least retail boxes with retail chips are going to be closer than ES though.

Yea, but ES samples did perform quite well, it is plausible that the AMA guy didnt know any retail details.

As for official reviews, their OC results does lean towards the premise that there may be a significant OC difference based on where the chips ship out of. We'll have to wait for more retail OC data to accumulate, though.

Aren't they all from Malaysia so far? Haven't seen any retail Costa Rica reports just yet.

Oh the conspiracy again...

They called the people in tin foil hats a bunch of conspiracy theorists until the Guardian in the UK broke the story of the US NSA and PRISM.

If there is smoke there is always fire.

People say that 4.2ghz is the only OC you can expect. Anything else is luck.

Keep believing that.

If you have nothing of value to add to this thread, then please keep it to yourself. This kind of flagrant hostility will not be tolerated.

Keep believing that.

Are you one of these corporate monkeys who are only here to defend the interests of corporations?

4 OEM system builders who specialise in overclocked systems have come out and said Haswell is hot and doesnt clock as well as Ivy.

Your response is what exactly? flat out denial?

And you can take a time out for the "corporate monkeys" comment.

If you are basing your purchase off of a review and an expected overclock, that's your biggest mistake.

If those companies are selling overclocked systems, they can delid the CPU. Shouldn't be too difficult.

Dont be silly.

What company would do that?

overclocking is one thing but delidding is going too far a company.

Why?

I base all my purchases off reviews and expected overclocks. Plus other information.

I'll.look for the article when I get home. Asus tested a couple hundred chips with a max vcore of 1.275v's and gave percentages with overclocks. Don't remember but think 10% did 4.8ghz? Think it was 70% did 4.4ghz?

yes i saw the same thing. But apparently they are not stable and have to be backed off 200mhz.

It seems 22nm has been continually tweaked for lower power at the expense of performance.
