Baldur's Gate 2 is longer, more intricate and has a better story than all three.

I like consoles too, don't get me wrong. Some of my favorite games of all time are console games. But eventually you get tired of collecting glowing, red orbs.

I never did get the FF fans. Get much sunlight? JK

Let me guess. You play WoW?

I've played them. And enjoyed them. But, I'm not some fanboy. I know FF7's plot was complete gibberish. But that game was LONG, which is why I referenced it.

There's no way you can appreciate the FF series like someone who grew up with it. But thanks for shitting all over my childhood.

Consoles are just a snapshot of where PC computing is at any given time. Remember how nVidia made the PS3 obsolete before it came out when they released their 8800 series last fall?

And the 360 IS a computer. It's even running (a version of) Windows.

Consoles haver their market as it easily can be seen. Personally I'm 100% PC user, my last console was the atari 2600

Well, every developer uses a PC to actually make the games, so no PC means no games.

CAD
Simulation
Programming
Word Processing
Presentation
Internet
and so on

The only question is how much do you want to spend.

How about preferences? I play a balance between my console and PC - I have a 8800gt etc. and an Xbox 360. If PCs were better in every way - I wouldnt play my Xbox 360 at all. You need to relize that people dont just prefer consoles (and other things) for no reason at all. Heres a couple why I love playing on my Xbox:

1.Casual - console gaming seems less intense to me so I can seem to play it for longer periods of time.

2.Playing with friends is much easier on consoles for me - since they all prefer consoles.

3.Switching between TV and Xbox at any time.

Just some examples of things which are irrefutable - because they apply to me whether you like it or not.

Consoles are good for people who:

1. Don't have the money to buy a decent gaming PC
2. Don't want to bother with mods and troubleshooting
3. Want to play with friends more than on their own

I would never trade my PC for a 360 or PS3 - it can do everything they can and more. The only thing consoles have over PCs is the ease of play - you can just plug in multiple controllers and have a party. When my friends come over, we sometimes try to play on my networked computers, but there's ALWAYS a problem. One computer can't see another, someone's screen sucks, etc. But then you have the issue of consoles needing a big, expensive TV to play properly. One of those costs what a decent PC does.

@Knobjockey, a friend of mine has a TV tuner attached to his PC. He watches TV all the time and records stuff on his hard drive.

Hmm, you can keep up in the PC world for ~£300 a year I would guess, if that.
Which is about the cost of a new games console every year.
But you also get improved general performance, and games are cheaper for PC than for consoles.
While the cost of a PC is slightly higher on a yearly basis due to needing to upgrade, once you get over the initial cost, it's not so high.
You also have to consider that consoles (if you want to play them in their full glory) could be said to have a high initial cost, since you might want an HDTV, and you also need a regular PC. Cost of console + cost of cheap PC = cost of a new decent PC IMO.

Consoles are better for party play than PC's though, but they lack the general usability.

Uhh, why are you rolling your eyes? Maybe he's right, and the consoles are just aimed at pre pubescent 12 year olds and no technical sheep who just follow at Sony and Microsoft's tail like dogs?

Concession: Sports games and racing games are 100% better.
Thing with sports game, how about going outside and playing with friends?
Racing games: ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

i am a huge pc gaming fan, and find them far superior to any console for most genres of games, though not all.

i will concede to two main weaknesses of the pc:

1) cost, and the cost to keep up with the technology for the same lifespan a console will continue to play the latest games made for it

2) if your friends are over, you can only play by yourself (besides sports games, but i dont play them)

Exactly. It's almost a masochistic relationship, gamers have with MS. They release buggy products, leave gaping security holes in their software, and enforce draconian DRM restrictions continually, with absolutely no sign of changing. The fuckers even tried to set your house on fire with their XBox power adapter. But, there's only one place to go for your gaming fix...

I <3 the Metal Gear series, the Gran Turismo series, and the Final Fantasy series. I wish to death they'd come to the PC, but the closest they'll get will probably be emulators. However, this tactic serves Sony well because those games are the reason I am going to buy a PS2 when I scrape together the ~$100 it costs for the system. Still, there are so many good games for the PC right now... my list of games to play is growing faster than I am able to knock them off. I'm still not done with F.E.A.R. - Extraction Point...

Hopefully consoles will eventually become so PC-like that they will be able to share content and consoles gain or extend upon some features of the PC like true web browsing, file management, etc. I know there are limited implementations of those things now, but a more expanded and universal implementation would be great. Maybe consoles could become the new SFF PCs?

I'm just dreaming though.

-PC's are always better at some games. Strategy games... I shudder when I think about Starcraft 64.
-PC's are way twitchier, which is sick for games like CS, UT2k4, COD, etc.
-Graphics, obviously.
-Internet!

But while I'll always love PC gaming more, it's not 'always better' either.

Seriously, who the hell would want to play Metroid Prime with a mouse? Why would it be fun to play Super Smash Bro's online when it's infinitely more fun to get pissed at your friends for dodging your Falcon Punch? Halo comes to mind as well, back when it was interesting. Most RPGs, too, are more enjoyable on a console for me. Playing FFX and Super Mario RPG on consoles has a charm to it that I wouldn't trade.

The argument that consoles games are for '12 year olds who know nothing about PCs' is silly. Even with a top of the line PC there's nothing as neat as wildly swinging a Wiimote along with 3 of your closest friends... and brutally embarrassing them in the process.

1. There are MANY games on computer. I find it puzzling you couldnt find anything more laid back on computers
2. That is certainly true, but I would assume that mostly had to do with controllers more than anything. I gamed with my console-only friends on computer for hours and hours just fine - all I needed was to get a pair of ps2 pads for them.
3. Many choose to watch TV on their computer these days... Not saying you should throw out your TVs, but that is certainly a valid option. Either way, that doesnt justify the cost of an expensive console. PCs sure can get expensive, but you need to get one anyway and with budget components things can be quite cheap these days.

oh, and someone mentioned japanese games. they have completely different set of games there, and of course there are tons more visual novels on PC. Console games do have their place sometimes - it is simply the matter of production budget. games that are proven in the more competitive PC market are considered worthy of a console port - usually watered down but with more perks like added items/scenarios and voice acting (when absent in the original version) etc. Just the nature of the market drives the console games to be more polished and attractive in these cases. That being said, the fact that you cant have any doujin games on console makes it an automatic lose for consoles. contrary to popular belief, there are some very affordable (often cheaper than the console versions) and well made controllers avaialble for fighting games. If you prefer pads (I hate em myself), there are tons of those out there too.

With western games of course, it is a no brainer. Compare games that launched in multiple platforms and you would agree PC versions most always have better graphics, mods, customizability, better online play and so on. What fun is it to play counterstrike without custom decals? console exclusives are the only reason at all why consoles are still there.

What kind of multiplayer games can only be played on consoles? Me and my buddies at the old place used to play fighting games of all sort (MBAC, IaMP, FatalFake) and mame/neo geo emulated games on computers just fine. Tekken was the only reason ever why they would turn on their PS2. Again, this goes back to the point of damned console exclusive titles.

Do me a favour, and please tell me what you mean by better in this case?

Clearly, you dont mean desirability. I prefer (like most) prefer console gaming - what is so hard to understand about that? Just because my desire for console gaming is more difficult to explain does not mean that it doesn't exist. It is the same with my mates, they prefer console gaming for numerous reasons, and not just for the controller as you assume.

I completely respect that you, and many others prefer PC gaming for many reasons (which I can understand), but you (and others in this thread) seem to think that your needs represent the needs of all.
