So 45% better 4K performance, on an AMD optimized title.

We’re pleased to confirm that Total War: WARHAMMER will also be DX12 compatible, and our graphics team has been working in close concert with AMD’s engineers on the implenentation [sic].

Optimized for AMD Radeon Graphics:
Ashes of the Singularity by Stardock and Oxide Games
Total War: WARHAMMER by Creative Assembly
Battlezone VR by Rebellion
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided by Eidos-Montréal
Nitrous Engine by Oxide Games

AMD shot us a build of an automated Total War: Warhammer DirectX 12 benchmark to show what the game’s capable of. Second spoiler alert: Radeon graphics cards come out on top against their GeForce opposites, as expected in an AMD Gaming Evolved title, but we’ll get into that more later.

...Also, Nvidia hasn’t released drivers optimized for the game, and DirectX 12 is only available in Windows 10.

I like they don't have a 980Ti or a Fury X to have the 1080 something to compare to.

Nice showing for the 390x.

Interesting performance comparison... the GTX1080 is without a doubt fastest overall. But it also has a much greater variance in its fps high and low, compared to a fairly consistant graph for the 390. I think in this case the GTX is fast enough you wouldn't feel it, dropping down to mid 50 range, but in a game that scores say 10FPS less on average it may have a more choppy feel despite the higher frame rate. Just early drivers or something else?

Hey guys, author of the piece here. I have a Fury/980 Ti/all the other GPUs I didn't test here, but it was a mixture of time constraints (Friiiiiidaaaaaaay) and the fact that I didn't want to go TOO nuts with this since it's a preview and not final code. When the in-game code rolls out I might retest it with more cards, but I thought it was worth getting results with the middle-of-the-road GPUs out.

Not too impressed with the results. Its a given the 970 and 980 will get beaten, I want to see the 390x near or beating the 980ti and fury x near 1080. Then that would be impressive.

Yes. And then he tests both 390 and 390x. LOL

i like the part where you didn't notice it's 45% faster than a card which should be half as fast, and there is no furyx there.

also that crappy frametime variance lol

I've noticed theoretical TFlops has been a pretty good yardstick for perf in AMD sponsored DX12 games, must be AMD's focus on compute based rendering pipelines.

in that case it makes perfect sense a 1080 would have about 45% more TFlops

That 390X frametime variance is sexy, doubly so for a CPU intensive game Avg: 58 Min: 55

45% better performance for only 55% more ($400 vs $700, or even $330 + Game) cost on 2 gen newer technology with a die shrink too.

Nvidia is a killer deal.

$599 for custom cards, and $379 for (custom) Geforce GTX 1070. And sorry, I am not impressed considering this is clearly yet another AMD showcase title and NVIDIA hasn’t released drivers optimized for the game yet.

Has anyone yet announced that they are going to be selling the 1070 and 1080 at MSRP? I'd expect that it would be a while before we actually see the prices down below the FE prices given the inevitable initial supply restraints.

In 1440p i see 29.4% better than the 390X, and the 1080 has 33.3% more SMs than the 1070, so this latter will be at 390X level here, and slightly better than the 390, assuming it s the same clocks as the 1080 of course..

Where can you buy a $600 1080? I've yet to see those actually announced.

Evga FE sold for $700 on amazon earlier today.

I don't see 1070 benchmark anywhere, do you, let alone for sale.

And $330 vs 600 is 80% more expensive still, for 45% more performance...

And neither card has "Game ready" drivers yet.

Looks like 1080 isn't DX12 ready?

What happened to day 1 "Game ready driver"? Based on your logic, then no Gameworks title deserve any attentions. What a stupid statement.

They even provided the build that was used for testing. Couldn't possibly pick a more pro-AMD scenario. From the article:

Also the curious omission of GM200 and Fiji, and select resolutions tested for select cards.

Good to see AMD get more devs on their side. They got to build up a good library to start changing perception from regular gamers.

Need to get more popular games though. Hopefully Deus turns some more heads for them. NV is running amok uncontested.

But you didn't have this same opinion for doom4 do you ? hypocrisy is real lol.

you won't be impressed even if 390x beats 1080, u'll just call it pro amd game. like you have done already. :\

How about other pro Nvidia games, are they biased and cannot be trusted as well?. The resolution selection is fine, GTX 960 and R9 380 are both 1080 cards, 970, 390 and above are meant for 1440p and 4K nowadays.

Doom 3?

Dude if AMD can't run Doom 3 properly, just burn the company down. Check mate, it's over.

(Side note: Quake 4 had some weird issues when I tried to replay it on my HD 7970. I should revisit that with the 980 Ti and 290X).

AMD can run Doom 3 fine. Only issue was Hawaii cards didn't run well with the maxxed out shadows on release day (they weren't in beta so AMD had no idea they were broken). They fixed it on Monday.

Why are people calling it Doom 3?

I meant whatever the latest doom game is ( i thought it's called 3 or is it 4 ? lol sorry i'm out of gaming scene nowadays)

the fact nvidia was running it on 1080 using vulkan just shows how pro nvidia that game is, but people don't call it pro nvidia just because it's not using GW effects. and these same people are calling out this game a pro amd game. even though there's nothing closed source effects are being used here.

Doom isn't gameworks titles , but this IS a Gaming evolved one (at least according the the link), you cant say that a gaming evolved title wouldn't be more optimized toward AMD's advantages like compute and DX12 Async features.

Total War: Warhammer DirectX 12 benchmark to show what the game’s capable of. Second spoiler alert: Radeon graphics cards come out on top against their GeForce opposites, as expected in an AMD Gaming Evolved title, but we’ll get into that more later.
