Last I saw, ETA for DX12 patch is early June. Not bad for an unfinished implementation so far.

it should not come out too late. Otherwise AMD gets not much benefit from it. My guess it will time well with Polaris and be bundled with it. If they got mirrors edge in on the dx12 bundle action that would be epic. That got pushed to june already

if that comes true, that would be marketing done right.

:thumbsup: DX12 is amazing. Finally we are seeing 6-core i7 smashing i5 into the ground in one of the most CPU demanding/limited genres - strategy games. I cannot wait until every AAA game supports DX12 properly. Once DX12 adoption takes hold, my next CPU is likely going to be a 6-8 core AMD/Intel.
I would like to wait for final patch before judging DX12 version. So far we have in game bechmark that couldn't be really compared to DX11 because we can't test DX11 in same conditions. It's really strange that in this DX12 demo there isn't also DX11 test for comparision, maybe real gains aren't so big as expected.
In meantime - if somebody is interested in DX11 performance test with worst scenario (4x4 battle):

in any huge 4x4 battles, there is really no need for benchmarks, I doubt any cpu in existence can handle it with playable frame rates.

Yea, you could spend 10 years optimizing that for DX11, it won't run well.
DX12/Vulkan is where it's at and anyone who doesn't get that doesn't have a clue.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a great DX12 implementation and credit goes to Creative Assembly.

DX11 vs DX12 comparisons:

We have higher performance across the board for both NV & AMD. A big margin higher too, not a wee little bit. This is DX12 done right.

Amazing how CPU bottleneck this game is in DX11 despite Creative Assembly spending so much time to optimize it and make it multi-threaded. With AMD's help they added DX12 that's great for all gamers.

The minimum FPS are excellent, it's quite amazing to see a Total War running so well.

Credit where it's due.

Unfortunately, the DirectX 11 build we ran did not include the same benchmark. We were thus not able to do a direct 1:1 comparison. Instead, the DirectX 11 numbers came from several custom battles. We attempted to emulate similar conditions and camera angles.

Apparently it doesn't take a genius to setup a custom DX11 battle with similar units and scope to the DX12 battle benchmark to compare the results. -_-

I just think it's hilarious how all the trash talk started and now the results show a good DX12 implementation, you want to tear it down. What have you guys got to gain by bashing DX12 again?

Honestly, what is wrong with you that you can't be happy about DX12 boosting performance in a huge way, even for NV GPUs to boot?

You cant compare the 2. So just give up trying to defend it.

One is a prescripted benchmark the other is with full AI for example. Not to mention all the other uncontrolled settings that you have no control over in the benchmark.

If the same applies when you can compare 2 equal bases then sure. But until then its just useless to compare DX11 vs DX12. And the only thing you can do is compare cards DX11 to DX11 and DX12 to DX12. No game ready driver for it for Nvidia yet either.

In other words, nobody is "bashing DX12" or doing "trash talk".

It also doesn't take a genius to realise it's not scientific way to compare canned benchmark where you don't know if everything is calculated same way as in real gameplay to numbers obtained in different way.

A custom battle in DX12 vs a custom battle set to be similar in DX11 is not comparable to you guys?

You have better luck arguing from an angle that it's beta and unreleased so it may not be the final representation.

Either way, not long to go, I'll buy the game when the DX12 patch hits and do the testing myself.

Its not a custom battle vs custom battle.

The current game doesn't contain a benchmark either. So that needs to be included as well. Else you can try running replays instead.

Yea, but 980Ti, 980 and 970 performance make no sense. Must be something wrong there.

I can clear that up. According to PCGH all benchmarks were run on the same map, displaying the same battle, but the benchmark utility uses a free moving cinematic camera that skips around between highlights and is not consistent. That is why the benchmark scores vary wildly between runs.

They also note that this battle ran at 60 fps on their 980Ti and 40 fps on their Fury X in DX11 @1440p, both cards show >70 fps in DX12, just to give a general tendency as to how well DX12 runs.
