arbntmare, it depends on the PDA you are looking at. Most if not all of the PocketPC devices on the market use built-in rechargeable batteries. Some Palm PDA's use built-in rechargeable batteries while others run on regular AAA batteries. Hope this helps

The batteries in PDAs are either lithium ion or lithium polymer and they can be charged in excess of 500 times.

You can change the battery on an iPAQ yourself, but the extended battery costs upwards of $150.

I know this is prolly a pretty dead thread, but a major selling point in some of the newer PDA's was brought up. Am I actually this limited in the number of times I can slap my PDA on it's cradle? I know it says in excess of 500 times, but where did that number come from?

Consider for a moment that that is a ballpark estimate given by the PDA / battery manufacturer. Now consider that in excess could mean up to 600 times. Could mean 800. Now also consider the excessive PDA user that takes his/hers off the cradle twice per day. Once for work, and once for going out that night (ok, so he/she went home, slapped ol bessie on the charger and synched for the night's plans, took a shower to let it charge for a bit, and then headed out). Now that means that this person is only going to get 300, maybe 500 days out of that battery. Under a year? :Q

I just want to know if I should just go the non-rechargeable route so that I don't have to worry about my PDA being DOA in a couple of years just cuz of a stupid battery.

I am in the same exact boat Arbntmare. Was considering buying a Sony Clie 320 primarily because it came with rechargable Li batteries. THe batteries are internal thou. I was going to use the device mostly as an e-book reader.

I don't want to be in a position in a year or two, where the cost to replace the batteries will exceed the cost of the original unit.

I'd like to hear additional information, if anyone has any... How much does it cost to replace the batteries?

Arbntmare, keep in mind, how often you recharge the device will depend primarily on whether the unit is color or monochrome. If its color, plan on recharging it everday... if monochrome, every 3 or 4 days...
