PDA Phone Question

I am a preacher in a church that has no internet service at the building. This isn't a problem since i have worked from home ever since i began with this group. However, a growing family is on the brink of ousting me from my home office, which will require my using the office at the church building. Here's what i'm thinking...

I'm expecting my calendar to really start picking up in the next few months, which is going to require my getting something to keep me organized. I'd like to get one of hte PDA / Smartphone systems to use and just have it on my Cingular account. What i'd also like to do is try to use it as a modem for internet service at the building. My question is, would this be feasible? How is it done? Is it comparable to braodband speeds?

I figure i'm going to have to pay for internet service anyway to have the phone and use it, so why not get unlimited and not have to install a new high speed internet connection at the buidling.

I guess as well - does anyone have any recommendations? I'm leaning towards the Treo right now (i use Cingular), but would like opinions.

Thanks guys,
Chris

The treo should be fine.

Just note:

1. Make sure you have 3G or whatever cingular use in your area.
2. you have to connect or "teether" your PC/LAPTOP to your PDA phone and setup some software to connect to the phone network. I personally just bought PDANET so I don't have to think about it.
3. Check the prices of the Broadband
4. Speed is I would say 4x dialup for EDVO, not sure how fast is Cingular's network. Don't expect DSL or WIFI speeds.

5. If you will use a laptop and don't really need the phone to be online just get a dataplan using a broadband PC Card, cingular, sprint, VZ, etc. should have them.

I have a treo 700wx and PC6700 using PDANET

Here are some info on the software

Treo using PALM OS

Treo using Windows Mobile

Check this thread: Sprint SERO Plan deal

I was a happy Cingular user for years until they raised their prices, bought AT&T wireless, and changed their plans.

Now I'm a happy Sprint user, hopefully for a while.

Good luck.
