PDF Problems

Hi all:

I just tried to print a pdf from CSU Fullerton's career center that we recieved in reply to our job posting.

The thing printed out real weird with the spacing ok but the text was mostly giberish (random letters with real bad spacing). Please note that it displayed fine in Acrobat Reader 8.0. Just the printing is whack.

Then I tried Sumatra from my flash drive (from PortableApps.com). It displayed great and printed great.

So to see if theere was something wrong with my machine, I tried it on my co-workers rig.
He has Acrobat Pro 6.0 but we used Acrobat Reader 8.0 and it printed ok but the headings were not bold even though they display on the screen. (Also note that all of this prints from a shared printer attached to his computer.)

I have never had problems displaying or printing pdfs with any software (foxit, sumatra, or Acrobat) until this point.

So to summarize, it won't print 100% correctly from either computer using Acrobat, but Sumatra Portable gets it out like a champ.

So what do you think the problem is? Thanks.

Thank you for the quick reply.

As I said this all on the same printer, so that shouldn't make a difference right?

sorry to hijack, but is there a way to display the table of contents pane on the left in sumatra like foxitreader or acrobat? thats one make-it-or-break-it feature I am missing in that otherwise nice lightweight program

It doesn't seem that Sumatra has a TOC, but I don't care about that. I like Foxit a lot. Stick with that. Acrobat is lame. (However, Adobe did seem to speed it up in v. 8) But I didn't really mean for this to be a comparison or anything. I was just mentioning this in hopes that someone could explain this anomaly.

My faith in the PDF has been shaken!! :Q Maybe I'll just start using JPGs lol

some of the textbooks/manuals I have been reading lately have many chapters and subsections included, so I must have a table of contents feature of some sort. Like you said though, foxitreader feels very solid and polished. Acrobat not only consumes too much memory, it often hangs up with 100% cpu utilization. I got in a habit of never opening multiple pdfs in browser tabs

I just wanted to bump because I've been gone a while and still want to know if anyone can shed some light here. Thanks.

Change the driver
PCL drivers are best for text based documents like Word or Excel and Post script is typically better for vector based files like PDF's and Autocad dwg files and the like.

Its why I give clients both types of drivers because neither will display everything perfectly.
