I'm a Sam Neill fan too. He's way under rated, imo. But in this... I'm not sure he pulls off the British makeover 100%.

I don't like Sam Neill's character in this, or Arthur Shelby. I'm not sure if it's the writing or the actors.

I think the idea of the older brother who's been pushed aside is a good one, but something about the way it's executed just feels off.

These are a couple of small complaints, there are so many awesome characters in this show. Danny Whiz-bang, Aunt-Polly, John Shelby, Thomas's uncle...

I've been meaning to start this but the lack of hype/word of mouth/critical acclaim has my expectations low

This plus the fact that the name is so fucking retarded that I assumed it was some kind of parody of British dramas.

Keep meaning to start it, because that's the type of story/subject matter that I like. But, a lot of Netflix content is just....bad. So I haven't yet jumped on it.

Just started the watching, and yes, yes they are speaking British. And not just your casual Dr. Who British, we are talking full blown Attack The Block British here.
Thanks. Not watching it then.

House of Cards, Lilyhammer and the final season of the Killing are the best Netflix originals

House of Cards, Lilyhammer and the final season of the Killing are the best Netflix originals

This isn't a Netflix original, neither is Lilyhammer. And The Killing is a tough sell as a Netflix Original: they only served as distributor, and possibly financier, for the final season. Sort of original, but really just concluding the story of an established story, with the same crew and everything as put together by a different financier.

I couldn't get into Lilyhammer at all. Pauly Walnuts does not have lead chops. I think I watched 5 episodes some 2 years ago.

The Killing--you meant that AMC show, based on the Danish show, that was brilliant for one season because it was supposed to be a 10 episode story arch with a real conclusion, then the producers punked out and threw a wrench into the finale and decided to make it a series?

House of Cards is, indeed, fantastic. ...though season 2 episode 1 pissed me off, so I haven't watched beyond that.

Peaky Blinders was awesome, can't wait for season 3!

You have to get used to the accents, but after the first couple episodes you get used to it. I turned the volume up to try to hear better. Turning on closed captioning, as mentioned earlier in the thread, was also a great idea.

Excellent show. I did run closed captions after three episodes. Must see and awesome are words thrown around for a lot of average work. That being said, this is so well written and acted that I don't think anyone will be dissapointed. Binge watch warning. You will want to keep going.
