peer to peer

We want to connect two computers via peer to peer. We have the cards installed, and the right cable. Both OS's are Win2000 Pro.
One of the computers has another network card installed and is being used for a DSL line. We have tried everything but only the computer without DSL will recognize the network and share its files. HELP!

PS Is it possible to share the DSL. Not completely necessary, but would be nice.

Do you have a hub?

Do you have a rj45 patch cable or a crossover cable?

There are three network cards involved, what are the brand names and product numbers.

Did yo ujust install basic networking on both machines per the win2k install?

Who provides your DSL?

What is the airspeed of a northbound swallow?

No hub, crossover cable, we are using 2 Addtron AEF-360TX cards (one in each computer), basic networking installed on both per win 2k, and SWBell provides DSL, and 9.8384 m/s, Hope this helps.

Try this: on the comp with the dsl connection, go into the dsl's nic's properties and set it up for ICS. On the 2nd nic in that machine, it should give it the ip 192.168.0.1 with a 255.255.255.0 subnet mask. On the other comp go into the nic's properties and assign it IP 192.168.0.2 with subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.

If you haven't added any users, right click on my comp, go to manage, open up users, right click on user--add user, add the person you want with password (if needed). close

To share your drives, right click on the drive, go to sharing and enable shared as..give it a name or letter, then assign permissions. Add the users you want to give access to and give them the "right" (permissions) you want them to have.

You should be able to see each comp from the other, unless you have a software firewall, then you'll have to configure it to allow you access.
