Pelosi: Democrat President Could Use Emergency Powers For Gun Control

Pelosi said if Trump used emergency powers to build a wall, "[...] a future Democratic president could use the same tactic to impose gun control", and she is probably right.

If Trump "really" wanted to, he could round up any ethnic group he wanted and send them off to prison camps, just like what FDR did. It was ok when a democrat president uses emergency powers to do various things, GOD forbid a GOP president use those powers to secure the border.

The bad thing, congress has done little to reign in the emergency powers of the president, except in time of war.

Then again, can't the president declare war for 30 days with congress? So to gain those emergency powers for a limited time, all the president has to do is declare war for 30 days?

The supreme court has a long history of granting democrat presidents a wide range of powers. It appears to be a double standard when it comes to the supreme court. At times, such as gay weddings, individual rights should be upheld; but when a prisoner is on death row and asks for an Imam, the court says no.

Then there was Executive Order 6102, which forbid the ownership of gold. FDR stripped people of their gold, and it was upheld by the supreme court.

Difference between the wall and gun control? Gun rights has been upheld by the supreme court in two recent rulings. Then again, FDR rounded up Japanese-Americans and sent them to camps without due process, and the supreme court upheld his decision.

So yea, if a future democrat decides to use emergency powers to impose gun control, the supreme court will probably uphold it. I say that simply because the supreme court has a long history of ignoring individual rights.

If FDR could sign an executive order forcing people to hand over their gold, chances are the supreme court would do the same with guns.

Dude, the President had a very reasonable compromise during his first meeting with Chuck & Nancy when both houses were Republican controlled. He could have had his wall and I believe it was 8 billion worth of Wall if he fixed DACA and made some illegals, legal. Like what Reagan did.
Trumps party went ape shit over that prospect.

Trump could have had his wall when Republicans controlled both house too but for some reason he never asked for it.

From your point of view, Democrats need to compromise and give Republicans some of what they are asking for. From my point of view, Democrats are rightfully refusing to negotiate for something that only Republicans want because it would benefit them politically with their base.

They didn't because most Republicans don't really want the wall and Ryan/McConnell didn't want to split their members over a vote for one. In the meantime, the Democrats offer $25 billion for the wall if DACA protections are extended. Nope, the Tangerine Nazi Rapeclown turns the offer down. Fast forward to post-election 2018 and Hair Furor is egged into the shutdown by the influencers at Faux Nooz until he gets $5 billion for his Dear Wall.

Right after the Democrats just kicked their asses in an election that was largely based on immigration issues...lol! There was absolutely no leverage for Mango Mussolini over the Democrats. None. Nada. Zip. Zilcherooni. He basically took government financing hostage and hoped that the Democrats would give in to his demands, much like the domestic terrorist that he is. Now he wants to declare a national emergency to save face, not thinking that in doing so he is setting precedent for any future President to do the same thing for anything that they want and Congress refuses to give in.
