Who here remembers story #1? I think I read about it in a 1986ish Dragon magazine. I'm just curious how many heard of this.

Gazebo story is classic, but I've heard it retold so many times I honestly dont know which one is the most accurate to the actual event.

I've seen similar scenarios many times, but it usually has to do with fantasy/mythological stuff. The misunderstanding comes from people not knowing common lore in the game setting. D&D has quite a few. Not many people know what a Bugbear is, for example. Usually good for a lol or two.

I miss playing Dungeons and Dragons... I'm surprised there aren't a ton of people taking advantage of tech to do it remotely (eg: skype or some kind of other collaboration program)

played it all through high school and college, but I stopped after I graduated in '03 and moved away from my gaming friends. we tried to make an IRC game happen, but it kinda fell apart (but this was when video chat and web cams weren't that common)

this was in the 3rd Edition era, but when I was in college, me and a few friends hooked up with a local townie group that had been running the same 1st Edition campaign for ages. fun character -- played a fighter/priest with an ego the size of a dragon. on at least one occasion, I had my priestly powers stripped for insinuating that my god should be grateful to have such a follower as great as I was, or else he'd have no worshipers left.

I play it on occasion remotely with friends using Ventrilo and a program called MapTool.
