yeah, creative creation is a total waste of time

I suppose it can be looked at that way... but... hmm... kinda hard to explain, but... ok... it used to be a pencil. Now it is art. It cannot be used, but it can be admired. so, it went from functional to non-functional. It is no longer functional, because to use it would be to destroy the art. If it were a plain stick of wood, it would be like someone took something plain and non-functional and made it better because it is now beautiful and admirable, and that makes it better. With a pencil, it went from functional to non-functional.

Hard to explain in words, but i know what i mean. not saying that it is a bad thing. it is quite beautiful, but i just dont get the reasoning.

I think you did get the point though.
A popular modern theme is to take a utilitarian object and elevate it to be art which often necessitates eliminating its functionality. This process challenges your perception of the object so elevated, as you've demonstrated.
Now what does this teach us about pencils? We've reevaluated the humble utilitarian pencil, we've conscioulsy chosen to reconsider and analyze the role of a pencil and, perhaps we've gained a touch of insight into that role and can further appreciate it in our daily lives, thereby enriching our experience.
In that way the "art" of pencil carving has achieved a utilitarian purpose...
