Penryn Yorkfield will be out in 4th qt. 07 Penryn Wolfdale 1st. quarter 08

Sorry, but where do you get that from?
The link you posted above says 2008 for all 45nm...
http://techreport.com/etc/2006q4/fall-idf/index.x?pg=1

hkecp shortly wrote that two Extreme Edition Yorkfields will be launched in Q4 already. The ordinary Yorkfields as well as the dualcore Wolfdales will come in Q1 2008.

Thanks BBA...
I don't know if I'm gonna take HKEPC's word over Intel's IDF slides, but I suspect that Intel certainly could move the release forward by a month or so if they wanted to...
I still think they will ship in Nov/Dec for availability in Dec/Jan.

why would Intel want to release earlier, they in any hurry? besides that i know of course that information about the future of CPU releases are always highly speculative and not worth much arguing ^^

Because AMD is about to PWN then with Barcelona. :light:

You mean AMD might, maybe, be able to outperform Intel. I'm not saying that they will not, there's just no actual PROOF that this will be the case. The 40% performance advantage, especially, sounds a bit suspect, since cherry-picking benchmarks can give you any result you want.

Well since I'm stuck with this computer for probably the next three years, I can ignore all of this Core 2 Duo insanity and have something to look forward to. Perhaps AMD will bring something to the table within that timeframe.

With all this development @Intel regarding the CPU, when are we going to get a decent bus architecture? Are we going to see a highspeed serial bus with Penryn? The CPU is looking great but the platform needs to be able to feed this monster.

No, that will debut with Nehalem.. a new architecture chip.. in 2008/9.

No we won't see CSI until nehalem . But this is a little of what we do know Penryn will use Bearlake chipset.

What we know about bearlake so far is this. It will use DDR3 memory, and has PCI-E II.

Now intel showed V8 not impressive at all. BUT! Intel didn't have a chipset that didn't use FBdimms. It's safe to presume that if Intel is serious about V8 . The bearlake X38 chipset should beable to do the following.
1). Run in DP
2) Have multipul FSB that uses DDR3 memory'
3 ) Use of snoop filter.
All speculation but if Intel is serious about V8! X38 chipset should be great. Now Bearlake chip set comes out in the 2nd qt. of 07. This are for the mass market and can run DDR2 and DDR3 either one. Also PCI-E II.

The Bearlake X38 doesn't come out untill 3rd quarter of 07. Its DDR3 only. So why a whole qt. later? I suspect the X38 is going to blow people away.

Well RUMOR says 4th qt. 07. AS for price it depends on what intels margins will be like for 45nm. Processor. But I would say $600 will be very iffy. Now AMD is suppose to bring Qcores out at the end of 08. Now that was using this process.

If AMD uses HighK with metal gates it will be much latter. AS this process won't work with SOI. Since AMD hasn't ever really worked with strained silicon . I am sure they will run into problems and delays. I could get links. But google is your friend.

Anyone else suspects that Nehalem (another 45nm after Penryn) will finally have IMC?

It looks as if Intel may have pulled in Penryn to Q4 '07 for both the mainstream and performance segments judging by this roadmap.

Mind you this isn't very clear as to whether they are moving Kentsfield to the mainstream or whether they'll use Yorkfield to make the move. Also it's not clear as to when exactly Wolfdale is to be released but it definitely looks like an '07 release for Wolfdale.

So discounting L2 cache, Penryn has 99million more core logic transistors than Conroe?
I smell new instruction set like they stated (SSE4 ext.) and an aroma of Hyperthreading in there somewhere. But what the heck else could they throw in there to add up to 99 million transistors? Whoa...???

WTF does this have to do with USA

I believe he was talking about this article.

Development for 45nm processors is currently done at Intel's D1D facility in Oregon.

It could also be an oblique reference to an unintentionally hilarious scene in Bloodsport when the Kumite registrar guy gives this hammy thumbs-up to Van Damme and says 'O K USA in a ridiculous accent

LOL, that's exactly what I was thinking.

Dude where on earth did you get the info that HK+MG doesn't work on SOI? And the comment about AMD not working on strain? Come again?
