My Dad has a pentium 3 933EB(133),and an Asus p3v4x mobo.I have a few Questions
#1 Why in softmenu 2 cant we change the multiplier from 7x?Is the CPU locked?

#2 How do you take off the stock heatsink on a P3(933/133 slot 1)?Is there a tool that will help?

#3 What is the max this cpu can do if i can get the multiplier unlocked and the HSF upgraded to a dual FOP-32 setup?

We currently have it OC'ed to 1008 Mhz(144 x 7).The CPU temp is between 43-53 degrees celcius. And the mobo's temp is around 20 degrees in our coolermaster ATC-200 case.We are also using Kingmax PC150 @cas 3.Also the pci is @ 36mhz making the agp like 72mhz i think.
It has run stable at this speed for a all day.

Thanks for any help ahead of time

Intel has been locking the multiplier since the Pentium II days. Some of the early ones were not locked, but everything since then has been.

<< Pentium 3's Multiplier LOCKED WTF????????? >>

Response #1: You're surprised? Intel has locked their CPUs since the P-2 350.
Response #2: Click Me

All Pentium 3s have been multiplier locked.
You pick a lousy processor to try to overclock, since it is already using the 133mhz bus,
you would have been better getting a P3 on 100mhz bus which would have let you overclock it to
133mhz.
It just isn't worth tring to overclock, sorry.

hifimaster i can walkt you throhg taking off the slot one heatsink. Once it's off would you sell it by any chance i've been looking for one. BTW all intel processors since the second revision of the deshutes core have been locked. The only ones left unlocked are egineering samples and well those aren't exactly available to the general public

It might go to 1.3 gig. There are no guarantees thouhg however fop38 with artic silver is your best bet. I presume you are talking about the thunderbird. Your p3 might do 1036-1120 depending what stepping it is but again there are no guarantees

Yet another reason to go Athlon / Duron.... unlocking w/ L1 bridges...

Intel Pentium IV... overpriced, overhyped, heaping pile of marketing sh!t.

I don't think he was referring to the p3. His p3 was slot one but he talked of a fop38. Fop 38 is a socket heatsink

If you were talking about the p3 as i mentioned before you will be very lucky to break 1100 mhz.

Hmm You will never get the fsb to 185.7(1.3 GHz)
1. The memory will never make it
2. The pci bus will be way too high(46.5)
3. The cpu will never make it that high

P3's dont o/c much further than 1 gig(exeption exist 1.1 is probably the highest you can possible get with a very good chip)

I'm confused now.

I thought he was talking about the tbird.

NO way in hell a p3 of any flavour is gonna hit 1.3 gig with any conventional cooling.

LN2 maybe but i don't think this guy is into that stuff.

The tbird might get to 1.3 Some very good chips make it all the way up to 1.4 and maybe even higher. You will probably get at least 1.2 out of that chip(it's copper all 1.1's are copper)

You like-ah deh FOP38, no? I don't think he can put up with the noise...

The Taisol CGK742 is the 2nd-3rd best performer right now, and it's damn near silent. Don't be fooled by the 10mm fan; it puts out 21CFM. Forged, triple-clip design, great performance, cheap pricing at (Inflow Direct).
