Intel will not ditch the pentium brand any time soon. The name "pentium" is perhaps the only brand of processor recognized by the general public. It would be foolish to abandon a name with such recognition. That said, the prescott is a bigger step up from the northwood than the katmai was from the deschutes, so I guess its possible they may adopt pentium V for it. But there is really no predicting these things, and in the end the only difference it will make to anyone who reads these forums is a brand new stupid ad campaign if they go with a new name.

They're gonna milk "Pentium" for as long as possible. Brand recognition is synonymous with CPU sales....Intel paid millions for some company to come up with it, and its worth billions now. They'll be calling their 64-bit desktop CPUs Pentium, even if it is T.C. (Technically Correct). The whole 486, 586 (birth of Pentium), 686 monikers were thrown out the window years ago, its all x86 now........
