Pentium G3258 IGP vs AMD 6450 for HTPC?

I'm putting together an ultra-budget HTPC for my friend...if audio capabilities isn't a concern, is it worth putting in an AMD 6450 1GB DDR3 dedicated card into a Pentium G3258 system? Or will the IGP do hardware video acceleration just as well?

If you don't care about audio then definitely the integrated GPU on Intel is fine, it has built in hardware acceleration for most video content.

IMO, The IGP is fine for this purpose. I've been relegated to HD4xxx a few times when swapping GPUs and for desktop use such as video acceleration and general tasks, there is absolutely nothing it can't handle easily. The only thing it may not handle easily is demanding games, unless you really lower the resolution and settings. Aside from that, if you're not gaming, you'll be fine. Note the G3258 uses an iGPU slower than HD4xxx, but it'll still get the job done.

Use the IGP. Its simply silly to add a discrete card. Not to mention the card you wish to use may actually do worse. Specially in the 23.976FPS.

Yeah, use the IGP, could always add a gpu later, maybe when there's hardware H265 support.

What is up with the audio? I have never heard of problems with it?

I put one in my HTPC to try to alleviate an issue with Netflix playback, but aside from that the even lesser iGPU in my G620 Pentium worked just fine. I still have the HD6450 in it, but I have no doubts it's not necessary.

The Netflix stuttering wound up being a issue with Netflix, not my HTPC or connection.
