Did you use Benchemall for your results?

No... should I? I mean... the results should be the same if benchemall uses the built in timedemo right? Or doesn't it?

I'm not sure.... It would be interesting to see results with everyone using the same bench method IMO....

Going by the X-Bit Labs article, I do expect an OC'ed A64 to best me (or be very close) in the timedemo... Recording average FPS in-game like they did is what I really want to see.

Did you start a new thread on this yet? If so, probably better to post all this there. But... I'd be willing to run some custom timedemo's if you want. I'll even figure out how to record them and record one or two myself for us to use if you want.

*EDIT* Fraps records minimum and maximum frame rates and total frames I believe... so we could use that to measure and just run timedemo's ourselves. It would just introduce a little bit of human error having to start and stop the benchmarking manually.

**EDIT** I'm playing around recording custom timedemo's and all of them are running faster than the one built in. Gettin 130's on one of them... 180's on another.

***EDIT*** Recorded another one and got more reasonable results... the lowest FPS I saw was actually while riding the monorail.

****EDIT**** The timedemo files are HUGE by the way. 35 seconds was about 150 MB... compresses down to about 35 MB when zipped... but damn!

Nice work Jeff7181....

I won't post anymore regarding this until I start a thread.... Before I do that, I need to find out what the issue is with my X850 XT PE. I just heard a couple of beeps when running 1280x1024 in Benchemall... I know damn well my 640 is not overheating...

I do need to figure this out though.....

Guitardaddy- I know my humble place compared to the exotic cooling guys. I was just suggesting we run either at stock or at a specified (i.e. comparable) clock rate up to my limit of 2.85GHz.

Technonut- Do you have ATI Tool? It has the ability to monitor and graph your temps. That's what I've been using on my card.

I'll watch for your post and try to run some benchmarks using the same demos as you. Here are the games I have:
HL2
FarCry
UT2004
Halo
(I might be able to borrow Doom3 for a couple days from a buddy or something)

Why do you all still feed this troll? Every F'in thread turns out the same. The less I post, the less I want to, I hope someone gets it....eventually

I've already run a couple benchmarks but if you'd like to run a few more (of the games I have of course) I'd be interested to see the results. I was always under the impression that A64>P4 in gaming but sounds like X-bit labs says different, at least with Doom3.

Well, I am working on the best way to record an average FPS while playing an intesive fight in Doom3, Far Cry, and PainKiller so far. Any suggestions?

If you want to compare what I have done before, download Benchemall, and run it for Doom3. (If you have it)

I do not OC my X850 XT PE BTW..... I will go ahead and post the Benchemall results, but I will need to start my own thread to continue this further..

4.1GHz
640x480 121.3 fps
800x600 115.2 fps
1024x768 101.2 fps
1280x1024 79.8 fps

4.2GHz
640x480 124.3 fps
800x600 117.3 fps
1024x768 102.1 fps
1280x1024 80.0 fps

4.3GHz
640x480 127.5 fps
800x600 119.2 fps
1024x768 103.3 fps
1280x1024 74.9 fps

4.4GHz
640x480 129.6 fps
800x600 121.1 fps
1024x768 104.2 fps
1280x1024 77.1 fps

Benchemall uses the timedemo, so I would really need to record in-game play to see if my results would be similar to X-Bit Labs....

I ran the timedemo just for kicks at the same settings you used.
Venice @ 2.6 GHz (236x11) with RAM @ 187 MHz 2-3-3 and 6800GT @ 400/1050

640x480 = 120 FPS
800x600 = 119 FPS
1024x768 = 111 FPS
1280x1024 = 93 FPS

I like the benchmall program, very nice

Here's my Doom3 scores with a SD3700+ @2780mhz and a measly 6600GT
better than I expected actually, it gives up pretty quick on the higher res but plenty playable on all res. This little 6600GT is a pretty nice card.

(stock) 500/1000
640x480 = 120.6 FPS
800x600 = 105.5 FPS
1024x768 = 82.4 FPS
1280x1024 = 57.5 FPS

oc'd to 570/1140
640x480 = 122.9 FPS
800x600 = 112.7 FPS
1024x768 = 91.3 FPS
1280x1024 = 65.2 FPS

Again why is it digitimes which I linked above who also ran around 10 photoshop plugin's show's the exact opposite results. Not only that -- they show the 840XE getting beating by X2 let alone the slower 820. Every other review site the same result. X2 X2 X2 ad nausuam was the victor. Driver heaven must have been so incompetant they only had one core on... I mean he said he could'nt fiqure out how to adjust mem timings i'm sure enabling the other core was beyond his grasp.

And what kind of review subtrats certain processors for over half the tests? Like the X2? Honestly I've never seen such obvious bias like that before. Every site has a static suite so we can compare processors though a mulitude of benchmarks just not one or two.

Sounds like a childish little punk.. :thumbsdown:

Everyone in that thread sounds like a childish punk. I only saw one or two members bring up an issue in a respectable manner. No wonder AMD users are looked down upon.

Jeff is right I read through the thread and 8088 did try to explain and discuss. He even displayed some humour but that was immediatly taken as "flamebait". Well I may not agree with the review but at least the authour was a stand up guy with his head on the right way.

The author was pretty cool albeit incorrect... but the "owner" was :thumbsdown:
Hello Adam,

Thanks for the email, id love to say I read it all but after the
"HAHAHAHAHA" in caps I honestly didnt bother. I did skip to the end
and saw some waffle about power bills. You think we need to worry
about power bills when Intel and AMD pay for all our hardware?

Adam,

Quit while you are behind, I seriously dont want to have to put your
email on a blacklist as you might realise at a future date you have
been excessively rude, condenscending and incorrect with many of your
commentary, so id like to give you the option to apologise. of course
if I block your email then you can apologise at a later date which
wouldnt be very nice of me.

Any further comments on the review, the testing methodolgy or anything
else you think sucks, please refer them to the author of the review.
Stuart, veridian3@driverheaven.net

Im sure he wont reply unless you word your email in a manner befitting
a member of the human race, but you have the option.

have a nice week.

@ Zebo ^^

True but the AMD crowd didn't stand out as the nicest crowd either. After that first mail I understand why they were @ssholes I would have been to...

Based on....what? It owns what as a dual core solution? FFS, I have an 830 and a 4600+. Which one do you honestly think I'd use more often? It's not a valid comparison. How hard is that to get through your skull?

*taps DLeRium's skull"

HELLO? IS THERE ANYTHING IN THERE?

Yea and the duron owns the single core scene too:roll:

Price is'nt everything dude.. not many want three years old northwood 2.6 single threaded performance in a brand new build.

"Bottom line." = Bottom of the line.

About half the guys in that thread were idiots. And the reviewer's a complete moron. His arguements are based on his expectations that everyone else is as stupid as he is. (It's fair to use a single core processor as a benchmark for judging the performance of a dual core processor in multithreaded apps because they cost the same!) I've laid out turds with higher IQ's than that.
