I know you're trying hard to be funny, but it's just not working out.

Actually, I'm trying to point out two things: first off, that people tend to look for any reason they can to claim the right to be persecuted (claiming to be a minority because the hold even the minutest quantity of a minority bloodline, most usually claimed by black people); second, that people want to be able to generalize about the offensiveness of anything as it applies to an entire people, as though "Jews" find something offensive. As you pointed out, you are a Jew and it doesn't bother you, yet people still insist on labeling something offensive to all Jews because some Jews don't like it, like all these sensitive bleeding hearts are here to save the entire Jewish "race" from the hateful speech of intolerant bigots.

But thanks for going out of your way to insult me with no provocation on my part...
It's a lame joke, don't get your panties in a bunch. I don't need a long winded explanation.

2. jewed

1. to be made fun of with a humorous or witty derogatory comment, to be harassed, insulted; 2.to be ripped off, swindled, or have bad luck heaped upon you. A reference to both the misfortune and legendary financial ability of the Israelite.

I personally shake my head when someone says that word. It's just so derogatory.

You don't need anything, but if you provoke something chances are better than not you're going to have to deal with it.

It's not really that random, Jews have been the butt of European abuse for at least 1500 years or so.

That's only according to Jewish conventions. In other words, if he chose to be Jewish, he could call himself a "real" Jew since his mother was Jewish.

However, since he chose to discontinue being Jewish, Jewish convention does not apply to him. That's like someone of some other religion saying that I'm xxx because their religion teaches that xxx applies to me. But since I don't follow their belief system, their beliefs are irrelevant to me.

If the man says he's not Jewish anymore, he's not Jewish, and Jewish conventions do not apply to him.

True, it is the rules of Judaism that state that he is Jewish (then again, whose rules should we be referring to?). It is also true that, since he does not believe in Judaism or that he is Jewish, the rules of Judaism are probably irrelevant. Nonetheless, in the eyes of those who would care to make a call, he is probably Jewish.

Maybe I was a little strong before. Let's put it this way:

There are a lot of things that make up being Jewish. Practicing Christianity is one indication that you never were, or no longer are, Jewish.

Of course, if you were born to a Jewish mother, that is a strong indication that, at least according to Jewish laws, you are Jewish.

Out of all the racial slurs I find the ones about jews being greedy with money to be least offensive or at least I find them to often be the most true, its racist but oh well.

I hear "jewed", "gypped" and "gay" all the time, and they all seem to think of it as normal language.

It's really stupid.

Yeah yeah, we can still berate and laugh at people who use such phrases, though. Or does that hurt their stupid feelings?

To be honest I don't remember every thinking of where 'gyped' came from until this thread. I highly don't care about avoiding the word tho because in europe some of them are still going to use their kids to steal your wallet.

Which goes to show you don't understand how racism works. "White Slurs" while technically racist don't carry any weight. History is what makes a racial slur truly racist.

BULLSHIT!
Racist is racist. You can't say it doesn't carry any weight. I am offended by them therefore no one in the world can use "beloved patriot, cracker, trailer trash, redneck, hick, country bumpkin" else the take away my civil rights.

History does not make a racial word, actions do. If a black guy calls a white guy a cracker before dragging him out of a truck in the streets of L.A. and a gang of blacks proceed to beat him to within an inch of his life because he was white, is that a racist term?

As far as the term "Jewed" I've used it for as long as I can remember. I actually learned it from a Jewish guy I knew in school that used the term to describe how his dad would haggle over the price of anything.

People seemed to finally stop saying 'Gyped' (sp?) as it was deemed offensive.. I heard it much more as a kid, but its no longer PC. Have they not gotten the memo about 'Jewed'?

Who really gives a crap about what's considered "PC" or not?

Exactly. It's just this kind of liberal, Political Correctivism that's dragging this country down a slippery slope of not being able to shout "fire" in a crowded theater.

91TTZ brings up a good point - who does, in fact, care about what is considered PC or not? The answer: red blooded, working class Americans, that's who. Real American's know that when someone uses words like "Jewed, Knee-Growed, Ker-Chinked or MexiSlapped" they're just words, they don't actually mean anything. They're just a way to keep people with different colored skin categorized, so those of us who live in this midwest don't get confused.

It is for exactly this reason why 91TTZ will go with me on my bi-monthly trip to Inglewood next Tuesday to talk to young children and their older brothers about my constant use of what the PC Thugs force me to call the "N" word.

1.) Lets face it - white people have a little racism coming their way. Don't get so indignant about it. May I direct you to the thousands of years of slaughter of various indigenous peoples? Maybe you can understand why others would be - I dunno - upset.

2.) I wonder what that white guy said to have that coming.

3.) You live in Texas - those of us in real places already assume you're a racist Hillbilly with a gun rack on your truck whose home is destroyed by a tornado every other month. In your honor, whenever I see a man hitting his wife, I will say she is being "Texan'd" and laugh about it. We'll all have a good time.

EDIT: for spelling. Now I'm going to go and Texan my girlfriend just because.

I have noticed that some people think that if a word or phrase does not offend them it should not offend anyone else.

Meh, I'm Jewish and use it with my Jewish friends. I think it's partly a byproduct of going to a very Jewish university.

It would only strike me as offensive if a non-Jew started using it in a demeaning way. Otherwise, I don't really care.
