Since November 2002, scariest thing I ever did - until I had my guts torn out and put back in. It will take about 7-8 years for the rainbows to slowly fade away. It was intra-lasik.

PRK hurts like a bastard. I had it to have my cornea resurfaced to fix a deep scratch, and it took a week before my vision returned to normal.

After the surgery, though, I had 20/15 vision in the affected eye. Sweet.

I had PRK done 10 years ago when I was in the military. I had great results. I was about 20/200 going into it and as soon as it was done (25 seconds total for both eyes) I was at about 20/50. Final outcome was 20/20 both eyes. Only real side effect has been halos around lights at night but nothing that would interfere with normal vision. Now I'm in my mid forty's and may need reading glasses in a few more years but doing fine for now (the doc told me up front that I would probably wear reading glasses one day - it happens with age). Well worth it to me to have done.

FWIW, I'd go with Plan A. I'd feel more comfortable with an MD. BTW, you may need a driver for your follow up appointments in the first week. Driving may be out of the question as things may still be a bit blurry at times.

Had LASIK done 8 years ago, best money I've ever spent...came out with 20/10 vision and still have it to this day, only minor halos at night and very occassional dry eyes, rarely needing eye drops...having the exams done by techs isn't such an issue, if they notice anything questionable an optometrist comes in and the convenience of having it so close would be worth it if you did have problems...if you were in pain and needed to be checked out would you want to drive the 4 hours, or rather would you be able to find someone to drive you the 4 hours? Yes there has been some problems over the years but it's a mature procedure now with fewer complications than ever...I mean people can still die having their appendix removed so everything has it's risks, the payoff for it is soo worth it though.

I just had mine done the end of January. I'm currently 20/15 in both eyes.

I don't have any of the "halos" that was a common side effect. I do have a touch of dryness every once and a while but blinking a couple times takes care of that (I haven't used eye drops at all).

Now, according to my optometrist, I was a very good candidate for surgery. My myopia (near-sightedness) was relatively minor, and I had an astigmatism. The stronger your prescription, the higher the chance the laser surgery won't fully correct your vision.

I had my surgery done in Montreal, CA and required an overnight stay (I personally drove home the following day). The pre-op and post-op exams I am having done by my local optometrist. I'd recommend having it done by the most experienced doctor with the best equipment, regardless of the cost.
