I think this has got to be my biggest pet peeve. People who feel the need to text, post crap on Facebook and Twitter while at work. I'm not impressed that you can tweet, use snapchat, post on FB or text while you're working.

My phone goes away once I'm at work. I don't need to text my friends. I'm not that important and neither are you. It seems that when people excessively text they are doing so because they have a boyfriend/girlfriend.

I'm surprised more people aren't fired because of this issue.

If you are able to fuck off at work, you arent working.
You're occupying a desk and collecting a paycheck.
And you'll probably be very surprised when your job goes to India.

What else am I supposed to do to fill the 10 minute void between my wall of meetings every day? Seriously...I have dozens of awkward gaps throughout my day where I'm between meetings, waiting for a call back, waiting for something to install. Whatever...and it's not practical to start anything else. So you do little things to pass the time.

How else do you think a lot of us have 50,000 posts here?

There's a fair amount of research that shows intermittent breaks/diverting attention to something else is good. As long as you do your work and get it done, why would you give a shit about what else I'm doing with my time.

Meh. One can only be head down for so long at a time. Stare at a spreadsheet at numbers for more than an hour or two and you go cross eyed. Same thing when trying to do testing or diagnose some crazy ass problem. Sometimes you just need to step away reset. Instead of chatting at the water cooler many people hit the web instead.

There's a difference between busy and productive. I may not be busy every working minute of my job. But I'll beat just about anyone else in my group on true productivity.

 I might spend 1-2 hours straight working on a project and then when I need a little bit of a breather I pop on ATOT and post some comments for 10-15 minutes. Big fricken deal.

I get my shit done and that's all that matters.

Because the complainer is a 85 IQ drone that thinks "work smarter not harder" is just a smokescreen for slackers?
Because the complainer is such a traditionalist that they don't know what it's like to live in the real world?
Because the complainer takes their job very seriously and thinks they're surrounded by slackers because nobody else averages 50+ hours per week?
Some combination of the above?

Of course, it's also possible that they're complaining because the work really isn't getting done. They should be bitching about that though, not breaks and phones, since that bottom line is what actually matters.
