I can't reach the top of my car, but I park in my garage ...so hopefully I won't be smashing anyone's window.

Just follow the dummy to see where he or she lives and in the middle of the night pour a few buckets of water all over the car so it's frozen hard when they have to leave for work. That will fix them good. Even better yet buckets of fox/wolf/deer urine!

At highway speeds that 5 seconds minimum. You have been busted for following to close.

Despite what driver's ed taught all of us...5 seconds of car length in-between during rush hour? THAT's unrealistic.

so is your expectation that everyone will wait for all the ice and debri to melt off there cars.

You also have to account for reaction time, and needing to stop slower in adverse conditions. Cars take anywhere from 120 - 150 feet or so to stop if you slam on the brakes. When there's ice and snow on the road, you're obviously not going to do that. I usually do 4 - 6 seconds instead of 2 seconds on the highway for that reason in winter time.

2 seconds IS the reaction time...

You forget that the car in front of you will take approximately the same amount of time/distance to stop that you will.

If you are going to do nothing more than dick around and post dumb comments because you can't think of a proper argument (maybe because you are either wrong or stupid), then GTFO.

Lighten up fuckface.

Of course, that makes perfect sense. I should first get close enough to the car in front of me to check out if there's ice on the roof, when I see that there is I should then drop back a safe distance. Perfect. How about people do the responsible thing and just clean their cars before they get out on the highway and endanger others?

I was. I got hit with ice. Reasonable distance and safe-from-flying-sheets-of-ice distance are not the same thing.

and seriously some of you are really god damn lazy, it takes less then 1 min to clear off all the snow on the roof of my car, hell it prob takes less then 30 seconds

WTF is snow going to do if it just blows off? I wouldn't bother. I'd just get in and go and let the wind take care of the snow on my roof.

Being in CA, you're out of your element. Snow/freezing rain or snow that melts then refreezes or wet packed snow will create a huge block of snow or ice that will break off and can crack a car's windshield or entirely cover the windshield of a car and blinding them.

Note - I have a SUV and use a broom to get all of the snow off the roof of my truck. People need to stop being lazy and self-fish.

I grew up in upstate NY. Drove many years there through the winter months.

I can remember snow blowing off the car in front of me on numerous occasions. One quick sweep of the wipers and it was gone. Honestly, it's no worse than someone going through a huge puddle of water and throwing a sheet of water at your windshield.

Well someone's memory isn't that great because even though I'm from CA I know what the OP is talking about having gone to Tahoe dozens of times.

I was however far I'd normally be from a car in front of me. A reasonable distance. I wasn't tailgating. Sorry, I don't have an precise number to give you.

Don't follow so fucking close...

Everyone here always bitches about tailgaters...you've gotta be pretty close before the ice should hit your car...remember, one car length for every 10 MPH.

Anyone who trivializes the safety of others on the road, because they're too lazy to take a couple minutes to clean off the top of their car is an idiot, and deserves a bird shitting on top of their head as they exit their vehicle.

Don't need to be tailgating to get hit by flying ice/snow.

Don't stick your car against the bumper of someones car and you won't have a problem. I've seen lots of cars with snow blowing off at me, and some ice, I slow down if it starts blowing wildly, but I've never had a problem.
