I don't do it to look anything, I do it more for comfort. Depends on the vehicle, some cars the window sits too high so I rest it on the door's arm rest, but whatever, I find it comfortable and I'm 100% certain that everyone else does it because they also find it comfy...if it was uncomfortable, no one would want to drive like that. Plus i'm too old to really give a *** what anyone thinks about me.

OP, I think you have issues. Of all the things to rage about, you pick arms out of windows, pretty lame but it's your thread.

No, we don't think so.
You're thinking of multiple personalities. Schizophrenia is more external. You see other people who don't exist or you believe people are doing things that they're not really doing. That crazy neighbor who yells at you for attracting tigers? He has schizophrenia.

he could be referring to the voices in his head.

I drive a convertible so there is no need for me to hang my arm out of the window. I just rest my elbow on the door because its more comfortable.

I do it when I have my window down to let air in the t-shirt to dry up my armpits and refresh myself without the AC.
I love it when it's warm.

Of course I do it mainly in regular traffic where I don't have to shift for long periods of time otherwise I need 2 hands inside, one to keep the wheel still and the other to maneuver the stick. That or in slow moving traffic where I can rest the arm on the window frame and still reach the wheel with the fingers of the left hand, the force is enough to keep it still when going slow.

EDIT: I'm talking just about putting the elbow on the door, not a straight out arm, no one does that for extended periods of time anyway since you need 2 hands to drive in normal traffic and in the highway it freezes your arm off.

The difference is I don't go out bullying people just because I can or driving around trying to be cool. I'm just a regular Joe staying in my place in line until someone else starts decides to pick a fight.
:whiste:
anger management issues :whiste:

i'd be willing to bet that you're an XYY male

btw OP,

arm out the window is about enjoying the nice weather and being just a little in touch with nature... relaxing. Depending on the window ledge it can be a VERY comfortable way to drive... old classic cars are especially perfect for this (66' mustang in mind).

you are projecting your own issues onto those who are simply enjoying their drive. i think you should seek help from a mental health professional.

either that, or this thread was an excellent troll

what?? are there people who can't?

I see it most when it's slow traffic and rush-hour. How many hands does it take to keep the wheel straight? 1.
I already miss my Olds. How many fingers does it take to steer around the tightest corners under all conditions? 1.

I must be mental too - because I cannot stand it. I'm a lifelong southerner, and all I can say is that it seems like nearly everyone that does it down here fits the profile of a fat slow witted redneck to perfection. It's not a NY cabbie thing down here. It's Bubba in his rusty pickup on his way to pickup a vat of pork rinds, flabby arm flapping in the wind.

I cringe when friends from out of state see it. And yes, they comment on it. I guess this means I am a bad person.

Cringing when friends see it? Friends that comment on it? I think this is all in your head.

I knew a guy that used to drive with his arm out the window. One night he got drunk and side swiped an oncoming pickup truck. After that he had to learn how to tie his shoes one handed.
