People who feed live animals to their pet frogs, snakes etc..

Ever since I caught and released a live mouse from my house, I've been thinking about getting a pet rat or something (after researching mice I found out that rats make really good pets).

Because of that, I've been looking at youtube for videos of pet rats. Unfortunately, this also has gotten me to see lots of videos of people feeding rats and mice to their pet snakes, spiders, lizards, pirannas, frogs etc.

There is something disturbing about some of these videos. The ones where a person has gathered a bunch of his friends to watch. The ones where the people shout out things like "Pwnnn!" and back slap each other as if their manhood is increased by seeing their pets kill and eat a domesticated animal that has been breed to be kind, sweet, intelligent and trusting. I almost never see these rats even try to bite back -- that trait has been bred out of most of them. And the few occassions where a rabbit or rat tries to bite the owner pisses himself like a pussy with concern.

Yes, I know, this is part of nature but in nature some of these prey animals might try to bite back more.

The ones that bother me the most are the ones where I get a sense that's it's the killing part that is so enjoyable for these people. Why do some of them try to feed their pets different prey animals? I've seen guinea pigs being used. Why? Guinea Pigs are expensive. Is it to kill something new and different being killed?

I'm just venting now because of this video.

Frog eats bird

Is it my imagination or is this a pet store bird? It almost looks like a parakeet. Aren't they expensive? And aren't parakeets really intelligent? It just bothers me that someone would go to a pet store looking for something new and neat to feed their frog.

The lower your IQ, the more you enjoy that sort of thing. Yeah, it's nature, but it's not natural to get your kicks out of watching it either.

The mice fed to the snakes I used to have would try to fight back, unsuccesfully. Sometimes I would watch my snake eat the mice, but I wouldn't cheer, be excited, or feel joyous about it. What really made me sad was feeding pinkies, or baby mice, to my snake when he was little, since they would squeal loudly; it was very depressing. After too many incidences of pinkie squealing I had to buy frozen pinkies ><.

I had a pet ball python. He was raised to eat live mice. Well I tried slowly switching him to dead mice. He just wouldn't take to it. So it was either feed him live mice or let him die.

Didn't realize that large toads would eat birds.

Bird doesn't seem very intelligent to me... kept landing right in front of the toad's face even after being attacked several times...

Put the pinky in a plastic bag and put the bag in hot water for a while.

I work at a pet shop and trust me, the mice are retarded. They've not been bred for intelligence, rather they've been inbred for food. Most of them get cancer looking lumps or eat each other in the cage anyway. Feeding them to snakes is a lot better than having them chewed to death by other mice.

Oh man I have a feeding story: My brother was in the navy in the early 90's and I had to petsit his 8 ft Burmese python. Not a friendly animal on a good day, and I had to feed him 3-4 jumbo rats (about the size of a medium cat) once a month . I fed it the first time and sat there with it so the rats wouldnt hurt the snake. I did this only once because the farking rats scream like little babies. Scream like babies I tells ya! After that I decided to just throw the damn snake in the bathtub and dump a rat in the tub with it and flat out leave the bathroom for a few minutes and come back and do it again.I almost wept because of the sound.

One time I left it in the bathroom overnight and in the morning I went into the toilet to do my business and the bastard had climbed out of the tub (it had 6 ft glass doors on it) and was curled up on top of the toilet tank. It looked awake, hell it had its eyes OPEN. No eyelids I know. Anyway, I unfurl my manhood and the sumbitch apparently was sleeping and got startled and well, lunged at my 2 inches of love and came oh so close to sending me to the hospital.

After that I had some other people come over and feed the damn thing. It actually bit a friend of mine who was trying to impress a girl by showing how brave he was. Damn thing left a good two rows of teeth marks in his arm.

Peace

i've seen one of piranas tearing a living mouse apart. i think the people who choose to own such pets are a bit sick in the head. its unecessary cruelty and hard to justify owning such a pet because of this. i understand its necessary at zoos, they have justification of educating the public. for just at home? thats just sadisitic sh*t

Pretty much. I mean, your pet snake has to eat, and it's interesting to watch nature at work, but getting some sort of enjoyment is just not right.

There's a huge difference between a predator killing for the sake of its own survival in the wild by its own efforts, and a person providing live victims to such an animal kept for entertainment. Sadly, some ignore this.

I bought an aquarium a long time ago for some tropical fish. So one day my brother and i went to the pet store to get some fish but instead of buying fish i bought 2 South American caimans(alligators). They were about 10-12 inches long and at first i fed them meat and goldfish .
One day we decided to see if they would eat a mouse so i went and bought one. We put a large enough brick in the aquarium so the mouse had a place to get out of the water and not drown.as the water in the aquarium was about 12 inches deep. The caimans would climb up on the brick and attack the mouse but he would jump out of the way. Sometimes he would jump in the water and swim along the sides of the tank to escape and return to the brick when safe.I thin k this went on for a couple of days before we gave up on the idea and i returned the mouse to the pet store. A couple weeks later i brought the caimans back to the pet store and traded them for some fish.

I am glad that the caimans never did kill and eat the mouse and i realized how cruel and stupid i was.

couldn't fly away and was more than likely stunned from slamming into the top and sides of the cage.

Hard to justify a pet that eats? It's just the way things work. Even if you have a dog or cat, where do you think the protein content in their food originates? Just because you didn't see the killing doesn't mean it didn't happen.
