Bet ya wouldn't even notice the difference IF there was one anyway.. Hard drives cannot even saturate the ATA100 spec., let alone the 150 of SATA. Don't stress about it. Also, is it too late to change your order??

Yes. I called Newegg, and the guy sounded genuinely sad when he told me that he couldn't change because they'd already shipped.

If there's no performance difference, 2 of the 3 drives that I ordered can easily stay as PATA (They're for a customer rig, which has 6 IDE channels), but one HAS TO BE SATA (For mine. I'm damn near out of places to plug stuff into this rig)

The only thing that the SATA drives may support (and I have no idea if it's true for this model) is NCQ ... and I know it can give a performance boost, but I don't know by how much, and I dunno if it's something that your Motherboard supports.

Yeah, I feel your pain... Maybe you could ship the one back and get a SATA one. You may have to pay for shipping though. Good luck.

Shouldnt be any noticeable difference, like everyone already stated. In fact, I wish my only SATA HDD was PATA.

My PATA Seagate is a tad faster than my SATA Seagate by less than 2%. To me, it's just all marketing.

It's not faster because its PATA, it may be faster because NCQ is hurting you, or randomness.

Right now there's no benefit to SATA except the allowance of more ports on the motherboard, better power stability, better cable management, hot swapping, and its cheaper.

Higher bandwidth means nothing at this point, NCQ has little or no impact at this point.

I'd take SATA over PATA simply because I can have 8 SATA drives vs 4 PATA drives on my motherboard, plus I don't need to rely on properly rounded IDE cables for good airflow.

Generally speaking from what I understand NCQ can give u gains upwards to 20% but will you notice this difference probably not. But I am sure it will be just a matter of time before we can actually get some performance increase out of SATA especially with the 10,000RPM drives coming out offering lower seek times etc
