according to pcgameshardware
At 1920x1080 , Max settings
AMD Radeon Furyx is 2% slower than Geforce GTX 780Ti,36% slower than Geforce GTX 980Ti.
AMD Radeon 390X is 28% slower than Geforce GTX 980.
AMD Radeon 390 is 18% slower than Geforce GTX 970.
AMD Radeon 380X is 4% slower than Geforce GTX 960 4GB.

At 2560x1440 , Max settings
AMD Radeon Furyx is 5% faster than Geforce GTX 780Ti,32% slower than Geforce GTX 980Ti.
AMD Radeon 390X is 23% slower than Geforce GTX 980.
AMD Radeon 390 is 12% slower than Geforce GTX 970.
AMD Radeon 380X is equal to Geforce GTX 960 4GB.

Performance hit : "AO HBAO+ / Pure Hair Off" vs "AO Off / Pure Hair Very High".

Geforce GTX 970 is taking more "Performance hit " than AMD Radeon R9 290x.

I have no idea why AMD 390X is close to Fury X while Geforce 980Ti is a lot faster than Geforce 980.
Still No Tomb Raider Drivers from AMD.

Update 1 : Added Guru3D and Computerbase

Excluding FuryX, AMD performance is no so bad for a Gameworks title with no drivers.

Purehair runs great with only 10% hit and excelent quality.

The strange thing is that the most advanced technique is based on AMD tressfx since Nvidia failed to implement VXAO for the launch.

Until AMD gets that driver out, it's Project Cars all over again. :/ Looks like Nvidia really did steal this one from AMD. Are Frostbite games all that AMD has left? I fear that there's nothing that can be done to prevent the monopoly...

Well, at least it seems like I might be able to use very high Pure Hair with only 1-2 settings lowered to high. Pure Hair and TressFX really blow HairWorks out of the water.

Fury and Fury X are woeful while the R9 390 and R9 390X fare ok. AMD needs better drivers. They are really pathetic on getting good launch day drivers for TWIMTBP / Gameworks games.

Give it a couple days when AMD releases the driver, these day of reviews are useless for performance when there will be a driver that changes performance coming out shortly after.

Not sure I'm surprised. The game is basically a gold digger. MS had the money on offer for console, so xbox exclusive. Nvidia has the most money on PC, therefore optimized for nvidia.

who knows what went on though.

BTW this game also uses denuvo. Slim chance its causing a CPU bottleneck for AMD?

I am sure with some drivers and and tweaking the tessalation settings it will be playable and still look spot on.

Can someone do a before and after performance check for the nvidia driver update?

they call it pure hair in the game. Its there but its open tech. They don't have to give AMD credit apparently and AMD does not restrict working with nvidia.

seeing the comparison with the Xbox One by Digital Foundry I'm not impressed by the PC version, the visual advantage is not all that amazing and performance is pretty low,

Digitalfoundry notes that their Haswell i3 and GTX 750 Ti "finally met its match" and can't get close to console performance

GimpWorks strikes again.

PureHair? lol it's TressFX 3.0 as they advertised it ages ago.

Name change, gimped AMD performance. Welcome to GimpWorks.

TressFX 3.0 is very optimized compared to HairWorks.

Given the gimpness of AMD performance, VXAO is probably standard. Especially after how NV was showing off that feature on their site and social media.

Also this is damning:
http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Rise-...451/Specials/Grafikkarten-Benchmarks-1184288/

In an interview, Gary Snethen says in connection with the illumination used in Rise of the Tomb Raider also: "On the Xbox One and for Direct X 12 Async Compute is used with Direct X 11, the calculation is running synchronously on the other hand." Possibly comes later support the low-level API via patch.

They built their engine to use Async Compute for the consoles, disables it for the PC port, restrict to DX11 only when they have in the past advertised their engine as DX12 (hence the usage of AC, how its so advanced etc)...

Nice move NV, buy out devs with $$ so they gimp their games on competitor hardware. Just because NV GPUs suck for DX12, let's delay DX12 uptake until Pascal...

Performance seems demanding if one desires 60fps. Perhaps since consoles target 30fps for this title. I'm used to tweaking settings, but when a Titan X can't hit 60fps at 1440 on Very High something seems off.

Days to weeks. And I'm sad because I loved tomb raider. The poor performance will certainly mean I will not pay for this game.

This is why I don't have hope dx12 will save amd. Nvidia will buy devs until they have the performance to deal. With amd.

Biggest criticism for console version is tearing, frame drops, and input lag.

The game was too demanding for the console. Got to wait and see how the PS4 version fairs next year.

I've been saying this for a while. But the usual suspects keep insisting that DX12 this, or that. Hell AtenRa labeled Tomb Raider a DX12 title before [EDIT: launch plans were] announced for PC.

They are insane if they think Nvidia is going to let their dominance slip away. We probably won't even see a strong push for DX12 titles until NV unveils/launches Pascal.

This is how I feel. Although I think amd will do. Better in those titles when they come out, I think we'll also need new gpus and no one will care that amd held onto performance longer.

I'm pretty sure AMD will also do better. What I'm not sure about is how Pascal will do. But I get the feeling NV is pushing a lot of money/sway to prevent DX12 performance from slipping out too soon.

Get the feeling Maxwell2 is going to get CRUSHED when DX12 finally takes the spotlight. Haha. But I think when it finally does happen Pascal will be there for people to buy up.

I'm going to safe assume AMD lost Square-Enix as a dev partner. This would be the 3rd game/franchise that I'm aware of that went from AMD Gaming Evolved to NV Gameworks.

Still not used to it being 2016?

People here need to give DX12 some time for adoption before accusing Nvidia of paying game developers to defer DX12 support for sabotaging AMD ...

Do not expect games that are already nearing release to get a DX12 back end ...

This is whay I've been saying in the performance crown. By the time dx12 matters, pascal will be out. Sure maxwell owners may get screwed... But people will simply remember nvidia as having the best dx12 chip and not maxwell tanking.

If pascal sucks at dx12 be sure to see dx12 delayed til 2017. I honestly just Don expect many titles to heavily favor amd without actual work done from amd. Otherwise nvidia will spend their way to victory.

Yup, I suspect that will happen, if Pascal is built for Async Compute, NV is going to push it hard in their GimpWorks features, so Maxwell/Kepler is going to be gimped. Planned obsolescence.

Meanwhile, here's AMD with TressFX 3.0, made open source, even working with Crystal Dynamics to enhance it, optimized it to run beautifully and what do they get in return? Stabbed in the back by sell-out devs.
