Yeah, so? Dogs recognize faces. Lots of animals do. Learned behavior. Maybe that person's body's particular Ph balance and pheromone signature is appealing to the dog for some reason. Remember, dogs have, like, a million billion brazillian times more sensative olfactories than humans do and can easily pick up on that kind of stuff.

That's one of the reasons bees chase scared people. They're attracted to a particular pheromone released when fear is felt.

A friend of mine who works in an animal shelter uses pheromone sprays to control aggression in the more violent dogs and cats that come through.

Demonstrating similar behavior without an emotional attachment. It's instinct for a beagle to go after a bird and kill it. It's instinct for that same beagle to wiggle and wag its tail and bark and jump up and down and act in a way that humans would perceive happiness in if other humans were reacting the same way when all the dog knows is that it might get fed or something.

Ok...so it happened with my dog when I'd come home from college...so you're saying *why* she can recognize me- but there's no reason that she should be so excited- besides the fact that I gave her the most attention and treated her the best when I lived at my parents house. I did not feed her or take care if her in any other way. So why was she so excited to see me? Following me everywhere? I wasn't giving her anything other than affection- which dogs shouldnt need if they're just concerned w/ survival.

*edit* and if she just loved my ph balance or whatever you were saying, she'd have that reaction when she first met me, or with other random people, which didn't happen

In the same way that your taste buds develop and change over time, it's possible that the dog's "taste" can change from pup to adult, etc.

I've always been of the notion that they don't have feelings. Is there anything to read on the net to support that they do?

I was raised with cats and dogs. They're dumb.

with 'notion' is what the uneducated think.

I don't think you have the horsepower upstairs to understand anyway, but if you discount all the religious dogma from decades ago you will find many scientists have shown a lot of higher level animals do things way outside blind instinct.

Things like having favorite toys...friends, etc.

Things like being upset / having bad days.

The problem is some fucktard like you comes in and immediately thinks someone is trying to make them better than people.

Add that to the fact that most people really don't want to know that anything they are eating may have been some spirited creature frolicking with their friends.

I'd take some college classes man, even 1 or 2 a year.

I've never considered an e-fight between Nik and alkemyst, this is beautiful Normally people realize that alky is batshit insane, make their remarks, and GTFO of the thread -- but Nik is such a bully that he'll never back down. I love it.

Bully's the wrong word, but you're right about backing down.

Cool.

Edit: And this thread is now hilarious. The unbridled doucheness of Alkemyst meets the untamable arrogance of Nik.

Yeah it's like an adult arguing with a child and giving them a chance to explain themselves.

He just says "because I think so".

Difference is I live the crap I talk about.

Like you've included any links to back up your claims, Princess? I've at least used reasonable explanations for why I think the way I do (pheromones, etc).

All you're doing is acting like the child in your own example, jumping up and down flailing your arms and screaming insults at people.

Brain surgery on people usually involves consent and knowledge.

Even though it is needed for science I still find it sad on animals because they are not aware of what is happening to them, they cannot distinguish medical science from a viscous attack.

So one is sad (even if needed) and the other is not.

Nik, sometimes you are such a jerk.

God this kind of attitude disgusts me! "They are not aware of what is happening to them..." That's precisely the idea!

OP: Awesome stuff! What are the tolerances on that equipment? How much can you miss by while drilling/cutting, without ending up with a snack instead of a science experiment? Ever kill any by accident? What are you working on?

?!?

I have included links and examples in many of my posts....

but first let me ask, do you think humans don't use pheromones?

seriously?

I'd work on finishing up at junior college before getting on a soap box on the physcology of the animal species in contrast with humans.
