Cool to see a Canadian Satellite being launched. 3 of them actually.

Interesting how they packed them in.

Where did that rocket go? Total fogged in launch and landing. It punches through the clouds and as the booster lands it disappears back into the clouds, very cool launch and landing.

Go 8 mins in.

Missed a successful launch but the next one for today has been rescheduled. "Due to weather, SpaceX's CRS-19 cargo mission launch is now Thursday, Dec. 5 at 12:29 p.m. EST. TV coverage will begin 12 p.m"

That was awesome! Glad it went well! Awesome that they caught the Falcon on the drone ship too! (well, maybe...the video clipped out...my tinfoil hat says they had a spare for the cameras LOL)

The armchair quarterback in me is wondering why it takes almost 20 hours to get to the space station...hit the gas pedal & fly right to it man!

exact same questions.

feed from Falcon 9 booster rocket cuts out seconds from docking with drone ship then comes back and poof... there's a rocket on the drone ship.
would have loved to see the actual landing.

actually, there should be 2 feeds? one from the booster and 1 from the drone ship? both died at the same time?
hm...

also, 20hrs? add a scramjet for stage 2 rocket to increase speed from Mach 2 to Mach 9?

what is that tin foil looking thing around the Dragon capsule?
it looks like it's in front of the capsule?

I wonder if it's a safety thing, they could in theory fly straight to the ISS and match speed at the right moment, but it might be a more risky maneuver. Best to put yourself in an orbit that is far but will eventually meet up. Might also be a fuel thing, might use more fuel to do a direct rendez-vous from the ground?

I wonder if the excitement of being in space wears out after a few hours being strapped in those seats. "Are we there yet?" Can't imagine being in a chair for 20 hours lol. What they do for going to the bathroom, they must have a catheter? And maybe they take some kind of pill to ensure they won't have to poop?

this is what im talking about the aluminum foil around the Dragon capsule (right) as it exits Earth orbit.

what is that?

i was expecting it to look like this?

Was so awesome to see that thing take off, was the first one i ever saw live. Quite amazing how far we have come with technology.

First of all, congrats to Space X on the first part of this test. It's a 6 to 16 week stay on the ISS before they return.

I was watching a doc on early space flight & something i never thought of was you have to not only overtake your target but you have to match it's orbit at the same time you want to get there. Change your speed & your orbit changes. Something like that.

Dang, just missed a pass. Might of caught the Crew Dragon following the ISS, if it's clear out.
I saw the last Shuttle before it docked with the ISS one night. Both were very bright & high in the sky.

Anyone see these "trains" of StarLink satellites yet? Couple of months ago i happened to be out after dark & didn't even know they were going to be there. Happened to look up & saw one... thought, cool...outside for 30 seconds & saw a satellite already. Looked to the West & wondered what stars would be that bright at that time. Took a few seconds to realize they were moving. There were about 10 of them altogether.

the foil is above the stage 2 motor.

Yeah orbital mechanics are odd. I never realized it myself until I played KSP. It totally goes against what most people would think. You're not just floating in space and then you just thrust towards where you want to go (like say, an underwater vehicle), it's more complicated than that. You're always in orbit with something, and you need to modify that orbit to get where you want to go, and eventually fall into another orbit (ex: if going to the moon). By increasing your speed you increase how far out you are in your orbit. Imagine a weight hanging from a string, it wants to point down, but if you give it a push in a circular motion it will "orbit" around the centre. The faster you make it spin the bigger that orbit will be. If there are two and want them to sync up you need to give it thrust at the right moment. I'm simplifying it of course.
