I absolfvkinglutely suck at jogging when I wear shorts or running pants.

In sharp contrast, if I weigh myself down with perhaps jeans ( i did that tonight) and even better, heavy leather shoes, I can run fine.

WTF!

Is there someone who can make sense of this?!


Basically, if I am weighted down I can keep a rythum and such while if I am not I am all over the place and get tired quickly.

I have ideas as to why this is the case but will capitulate to the advice of those who are much wiser in this area of movement.

You're probably just not used to the mechanics of running, and the extra weight helps your legs stay in cadence. I know when I start back up running after a break, my legs feel liek they're all over the place. It takes a while to get back into a nice, efficient form. When you run in shorts and running shoes, try to concentrate on your form, keeping your arms straight back and forth instead of swinging in towards your chest, and bringing your feet up and keeping your knees straight. Also, the faster you go, the more efficient your form becomes, naturally, so maybe try some strides (fast, but not quite sprinting) to work on and focus on your form.

Concentrate on your stride length, it's probably too long in shorts. Also, try running up long gentle hills and pay attention to your form (going uphill promotes good form).

Do you run like Phoebe on Friends? If you do, then when you wear heavy clothes, it restricts your movement and you can run with a better rhythm.
