I have some incomplete MP3 files that were downloaded using WinMX. These files refuse to be deleted, just throw up a send error report box. They are not write protected just incomplete mp3 files. I have tried to delete them in safe mode but get the same problem.
Anybody out ther help a newbie.

Have you made sure that win-mx isn't active, even though you're in safe mode (not even reduced to a tray icon, but completely shut down) when you're trying to nix them? If a program is still using or thinks it is using a file, you can't delete it (and on Macs, you can't even eject the zip disk or cd! imagine the hassle of that!).

failing that, I'd try to delete them in dos, if you know how to start from a boot disk. You need to be able to use the CD command to change to the appropriate directory, and then delete the files by using "del"

If the file names are really long, like asdfghjklzxcvnmqweertyu, then go

del asdfgh*

and you should be good.

Made a startup disk on my ME laptop and did as you suggested and the files are now consigned to the Ether.
