On Sunday, my girlfriend and I went to a graduation party for a friend of my girlfriend who finished high school. When we walked in the house, the graduate introduced me to her family as my girlfriend's "friend, Mike."

Okay, I could understand using 'friend' if we'd been together for a short time, but it's been almost two years since we met, and I think we're both pretty comfortable with the terms 'boyfriend' and 'girlfriend.'

Ugh; I don't usually mind political correctness, but being referred to as my girlfriend's 'friend' makes me feel like I'm in 6th grade.

get ready to get yo a$$ dumped and her humped by another guy.

Yeah, there's not really a mature, grownup sounding term. But I've got to tell you, it annoys me far less than girls who, when they talk about their boyfriends, refer to them as "the boy". As in, "Me and the boy went to a movie." It just drives me up a wall.

Thankfully, if my gfs ever actually did call me that, I wasn't around to hear it, so it's all good.

That sounds awful. Why don't they say "My man.."?

That's worse than 'friend!!!'

"Hi, this is Mike, Meg's beloved." FVCK that, I'll stick with 'friend!'

friend is the politically correct term now, esp with the whole 'friends with benefits' thing.

It solves the whole issue of bed friends coming to a gathering or party together and being called boyfriend/girlfriend when they aren't and in fact, may be coming to the function to possibly meet one.

Like I said, it's a closed group, and it's girly. *bows out of thread*

Yeah, friend sounds fine to me in a situation like that.

Hey, at least she didn't introduce you as "Meg and that dirty sonofabitch Mike."
My current gf once went to a formal with a dude and learned after he asked her to go, but before the event that he was dating a friend of hers and tried to hide it.
She introduced him to people at the formal as "Douchebag."

I don't recall you saying why it bothers you. Seems like a deeper concern IMO or otherwise:

no offense, but that's kind of a girly type gripe

Do you feel you need that official title of boyfriend? Was it just the family time or other times it bothered you?

anyways I often do both. I'll sometimes catch myself saying "girlfriend" or just "friend" cuz it's easier then saying "some girl I am seeing" and much better then "one of the beeotches in my stable" lol But for someone I've been seeing for 2 years.... I'd refer to her my girlfriend and I'd expect her to call me her boyfriend. It implies more then just "friends" which can be important to distinguish... if you want to distinguish........

For the longest time, my girlfriend's mother would always introduce me to her friends as her daughter's "friend." Mind you this was after several years of dating. It always bothered me because it made it seem like we were in 5th grade or something. Fast forward to this year when my GF's mom busts out and introduces me as her daughter's "Future Fiancee" :Q

I'm not too sure I like either title.

At least she's considering you worthy of being future son-in-law material, right?

Well, then does anyone have a better term to use than 'friend' or 'boyfriend' since so many people seem to be embarassed by either?

How about "Fvck of the week"?
