pet traveling

anyone know of any good websites with pet carriers that are made for airplane travel? I got a toy fox terrier that I plan to be taking to korea with me. Also any suggestions on which air companies are the most pet friendly? Anyways, i've looked it up online, but would like to just hear personal experiences

First and foremost, call the appropriate authority of the country that you are traveling to. Many countries (for example Japan and many European states) have strict pet quarantine compliance regulations that you must meet otherwise you will not be able to leave the airport with the pet. Make sure you have all health history documented, up to date with all vaccinations especially rabies, microchip implanted etc.

Also call the airport and airline you are traveling to and with and ask the same questions to ensure that the processes are the same so you don't run into any negative surprises.

Yea i've checked with the laws and everything it should be going. Gonig to S.Korea

Also, has anyone had any experiences with any pet travelling bags? breathability, comfort, etc...

Considering the length of the trip (~14 hrs?) you may want to tranquilize the dog and put him in pet cargo. Last thing you want is to deal with pet waste and barking which would piss off everyone around you. In any case however, go with an airline with top notch service like JAL or ANA. They're very attentive to special situations and often times the rates might even be better.

If you plan on having the pet with you in the cabin, the carrier MUST be able to fit under the seat. htat means the size of a duffle bag at the largets. ensure that the pet will be comfortable in a container that size.

Check out places like Petsmart & Petco to determine what is normally available.

You can purchase carriers off the Internet.

How long are you going to be in Korea? That's a long trip for a dog. My dogs would have to do their business and would bark/cry for food during that long of a flight. I would keep them at home and have someone look over them.

Agreed. One of my wife's friends shipped her dog to a show with Alaska Airlines, and they LOST THE DOG! She was right on the plane, and somehow it got sent off to another city at a transfer. By the time she got it back, the dog was so freaked out that it was never the same.

Coming from a lifer, THAT surprised me...You must spend most of your time in other forums, and not read many posts here...

(Yeah, I know...SOME things can earn you a vacation, but many other things get ignored...many of them things that SHOULD earn the poster vacation time...)
