This time they managed to turn the knob way past stupid:

https://nationalpost.com/news/world...change-name-saying-it-promotes-animal-cruelty

The fact that the unassuming Dorset village of Wool derives its name from an ancient word for well, or water spring, has fallen by the wayside.

Animal rights activists have declared the village’s name an affront to sheep the world over, claiming it promotes animal cruelty.

They have asked that the village be renamed Vegan Wool, forcing the local parish council to debate the issue.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the residents of Wool, along with many others, have lined up to ridicule PETA, the animal rights charity behind the request.

Elisa Allen, director of PETA, has written to Wool parish council to request the change in order to “promote kindness to sheep” and to soften the blow, she has promised to give a “cruelty-free” woollen blanket to all 2,000 households in the village if they agree.

Looks like PETA is becoming a parody of themselves.

Both the parish council and residents should simply and quite forceably tell those notjobs to go and fuck off.

I never understood how in the World anyone can be far more concerned with Animals then the well being of Humans.

For the most part, I'm more concerned with animals. Humans can largely take care of themselves. Animals have life to deal with as well as dealing with humans.

I have nothing against reducing the suffering of and preventing cruelty to animals. But I consider the behavior of the members of PETA to be something close to treason to the Human Species in addiction to also being a mental illness.

PETA's a bunch of dumbasses. They take a reasonable cause and make it a joke. Any support I might have had for them is vastly overwhelmed by their appalling dumbassery. They should focus on education, and explain why we need animals, and a diverse ecosystem, as well as why it isn't cool being a dick to sentient creatures. They'd go further with their goals instead of being a running joke only taken seriously by people that can't think.

Similarly then,
Kentucky needs to be renamed to Tucky, as it is associated with Kentucky Fried Chicken, which is totally non-vegan

Turkey needs to be renamed to Key, as it promotes eating Turkeys

Good luck getting them to rename themselves... And what is immoral about eating meat?

I was only jesting.
Eating meat, is a complicated subject area, partly because of sustainability, healthy eating, animal rights and other stuff.

Not really. We're Human, we're at the top of the food chain, we eat other organisms. Period.

Except that we only seem to have one planet Earth, and it can only sustain (produce if you like), a limited amount of meat.
So as the worlds population increases, and everyone needs to eat to survive (even the animals), things can run out.

Exactly.

The thing is that if meat becomes very difficult to get hold of and/or very, very expensive in the future. Then it could force a lot of people, to eat a lot less meat, in the future.
A bit like global oil prices, which are likely to only rise, in the future.

I consider PETA to be in the same catagory as libertarians, useful to have around to remind us that there are different ways of looking at the world but we also don't want them to be in charge of anything.

Fortunately movies don't 100% accurately predict the future.

If I remember correctly, it was predicted (many decades ago, not in movies), that by now oil would have run out. Fortunately, that has not happened, yet.

Oil will never literally run out, it'll just be economically nonviable to extract the dwindling supplies as a primary source of power.

True. My uncle, a chemical engineer, used to rant about wasting petroleum on fuel. It is the best feedstock on earth, why burn it?

Yeah, we're a weird animal. We have this product thats in limited supply and that we can use for loads of vital things. What do we do? We burn it in huge amounts!

I guess, when it becomes impractically expensive to extract. It will be replaced by renewable energy sources, such as solar power (electric vehicles), and crops that can be turned into bio-fuels.

When it comes to violent fundamentalists extremist terrorist groups in the world, I put PETA just above ISIS and just below Republicans.

Oh please. PETA is no where near as dangerous as ISIS or Republicans, no comparison.
