Apparent heart failure.

For those that dont know, he was the singer of Type O Negative. Though the band themselves havent confirmed it, the AP has posted the news and people associated in the business have been confirming it.

Wow, followed Pete for over 20 years since I saw him with Carnivore at CBGBs back in 1988, through the TON Bloody Kisses era, to his downfall and jail time and recent comeback. In person he was one of those people who just seemed larger than life (didn't help that he was over 6' tall).

April 14, 2010. Steele's death has according to one report, been confirmed today by fellow Type O Negative member, Kenny Hickey. This is not the first time that reports of Peter Steele's death have surfaced. In 2005 there were rumors circulating that Steele had died.

I didn't realize I was at TON's first show:

I went to starting from the very first in May of 1988 to around late 2000 and I had recently noticed that the 20-year anniversary of TYPE O's first show had passed, March 23rd 1990 at L'Amour in Brooklyn and that the ICEMEN and AMERICAN EAGLE were the openers.

I remember my friends dragged me to it and I didn't realize who they were or that Peter was the guy from Carnivore. Weird.

Damn, I hope he isn't dead. Carnivore's "Retaliation" is one of my favorite albums ever. I saw them in 2007(?) when they did a Carnivore reunion tour. That was probably one of the top 3 shows that I've ever been to. The music was just dripping with power and energy, it felt like I was experiencing New York hard core circa 1985. I need to go create a Carnivore pandora station like, right now.

I remember jamming "Retaliation" on my Jr High school trip to Washington DC.

It's hard to sound the same live as on a tape or CD etc. Carnivore was able to achieve this.

I saw Type O twice...a few years ago (which sucked), as well as in 1995 (Bloody Kisses tour) when they opened for Pantera. That was an amazing show.

He was 6'7". Really tall guys have a bad track record for living long. Not sure if there's a genetic defect with some of them that causes rapid ageing of some organs or not.

They had to cancel a tour back in 2005 because they found something out of place on his medical exam.
