And how much could Rollo devote to Anandtech being a moderator elsewhere as well as a member of several other boards? Belittling Chris Ray's traffic here doesn't mean Rollo is all of the sudden going to be a more devoted member. If anything, I would expect this Rollo's traffic to be similar to Chris Ray's since they both have the same affiliation and are members of the tech community on many boards, even moderators of official ones.

Like I said, I wasn't around to form any kind of opinion about the guy. All I've seen is the impact his persona has done to this forum, and it seems ironic that people will ban him one day and plea for his return the next. I don't want to come off as some sort of filibuster, objecting to a return of someone I don't even know, but if anyone has a better reason than, "We miss him" it might sway the 50/50 pole. (I know the pole isn't exactly 50/50, just saying it sways back and forth and is pretty much split most of the time).

People say his nVidia connections will help get the word out to nVidia about what needs to be fixed. Let's be honest, that's not the reason. nVidia themselves have developed many methods that allow users to do just that, and it has happened. Chris Ray is already a member here who can do just that as well. And on top of that, I have the feeling that a lot of the members here wait for things to come to them from the real complainants on the more tech-devoted boards.

People say his personality was a nice addition to the forums. As the pole shows, that's true...for some. It also shows that many weren't happy with his personality. Judging from my experience at Anandtech, you need more than a 50/50ish pole to make things happen around here. Heck, how many people are in favor of a separate programming forum and are still waiting for something to happen? All I'm saying is it seems like his personality as a whole got him banned, the same personality that others didn't like one day then missed the next.

I'm not here as much anymore cause I'm hooked on a MMORPG. I didn't know the guy at all, so perhaps my opinion doesn't matter. Then again, perhaps it's a good one since there's no bias in it. Just thought I'd give my $.02 since this thread was mostly made of people who knew him and loved him or knew him and hated him.

Personally, I think you'd like the guy... He's been painted as this vicious snake of a character, but he really wasn't like that. Sure, the whole thing ended badly, but there were other times too.

He held a contest once where he gave away an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe to the poster with the funniest post. He actually ended up posting one of the funniest stories himself.

He also was one of the first (if not the first) to have an SLI rig on AT forums. Obviously, this was due to his connections with AEG/NVIDIA, but he answered a lot of questions regarding power requirements etc...

Of course, there was the whole AF shimmering debate and the pre-released beta driver, but I think him and ChrisRay got duped by AEG on that one. In a nutshell (and with a big IIRC) - both him and Chris were touting some unreleased drivers they both got from a 'friend' at NV that had apparently cleared up the whole AF shimmering issue with 7-series cards... Well, when the drivers finally publicly came available, they didn't fix jack... ChrisRay ended up reversing his statements on nvnews about the drivers IIRC. I always felt that the AEG guys got pressured to talk the drivers up as if they were a solution when they weren't, but I can't say for sure.

edit: see, video used to be more exciting We had intrigue, deceipt, and crappy NV drivers.

Rollo post: I decided to give ATI another chance, so I ordered an X1800XT online and waited. Few days later I had it in hand and was excited to see what everyone seems to be excited about. I put it in, install the drivers, restart Windows, and go to play some games....nothing. Nothing happened, screen turned black, system restarted. After pulling my hair out I popped my 6800GT back in and all was fine.

The above is fiction, but he made 2 similar posts concerning 2 different ATI cards with practically identical results.

He is worthless.

The guy is a sellout, he?ll tell you anything just to make you consider on buying an nVidia product.

If he admitted from the beginning that he was part of nVidia marketing scam than I have no problem with everything you said.
