And as I pointed out then, if a subset of a group is able to co-opt a label, then the shrill man-haters of the world have taken over the word feminists. I'm all for equality. I think men and women should have the same opportunities and be paid the same for the same job. And nobody of any sex, race, or creed should have to worry about their personal safety just because some don't like their opinion. But if "gamers" are terrible people who now belong to this inescapable stereotype because a couple of trolls wrote mean things on Twitter then feminists are terrible people because of opportunists like Anita Sarkeesian and Leigh Alexander who only exist to profit off of the very social strife they themselves create.
I had a problem labeling myself a gamer far before all the gamer gate stuff. When it became a marketing term is when I started pack pedaling out of the distinction.
