Places flike PF Chang is for people who want Chinese food without seeing dirty rags, flies, smelly dish carts, greasy floors, unclean silverware, and etc. I ate there once and the presentation of the food is good, but it's not worth the premium unless you want to pay for the atmosphere.

PF Chang's is garbage. Oddly, Pei-Wei, which is owned by the exact same group, is pretty good with much better prices and less totally pointless ingredients/dishes.

IMHO : Most Mexican/Chinese/American food is better when it's simple and made with quality ingredients. Trying to get too fancy is just asking for fail. Cuisine which benefits from a lot of effort and complexity are things like French, Indian, and Greek dishes. I do realize this is a gross oversimplification, and that China is a truly vast and varied country, but in general I think it holds true.

Pei-Wei is actually really flippin good. I survived off that during college

I don't know, I actually like the working class atmosphere of most Chinese takeout places. I like that you can see right into the kitchen and watch them make their food. They're very utilitarian places and not too aesthetic, but they do seem to be clean, at least around me. The same shit goes on behind the closed doors of any other restaurant anyway.

it's a sit-down chain restaurant that specializes in chinese food (think, Fridays, Olive Garden, etc)

i love a good authentic mexican food place either, but i actually start to prefer chipotle burritos

It is pretty good for what it is, fusion/Americanized Chinese food.

Just set the correct expectation. You don't walk into a movie like Transformers and expect it to be an Oscar winner, so you shouldn't walk into PF Chang's and expect it to be authentic Chinese food.

But if you live in so. cal, you have no reason to be eating at PF Changs

My local greasy wok (is that okay to say?) is incredible. You call in an order and they tell you "Ten fifteen minute!" and I literally have to run to the car and drive the 2 miles there. I've got 4 pounds of Generals Chicken and Hunan beef waiting for me in under 10 minutes.

I can't comment on PF Changs because I've never been. But I will say the best tasting food I've eaten from whatever culture has always been at a Americanized restaurant. I'm about to go to a place called China Kitchen, I'm sure the "authentic" snobs on here would turn their noses up and tell me how it's not real Chinese food. All I know is for $5 I get a stupid amount of delicious crispy Orange Chicken where every bite's OM NOM NOM good. It might not be authentic but it tastes better, authentic is a lot of the time overrated. In America we excel at stealing other peoples shit and improving it.

I'm actually quite certain that orange chicken, beef and broccoli, walnut shrimp, kung pao chicken are original chinese dishes. I have them all the time at nice authentic chinese restaurants here in the asian ghettoes in so. cali.
But they taste a helluva lot better than the ones you find at the americanized places *cough*panda express*cough*. But for a much higher price and a classier setting, I would sure hope they taste far superior.

"Real chinese" food is terrible. PFs' is the only "chinese" food I like.

Please enlighten me on the "real Chinese food" you've had.

And for all those who like PF Chang's, why don't you just pour MSG, salt, peanut oil, sesame oil, soy sauce, and pureed ginger into a blender, blend it until smooth and drink it? It's essentially the same thing, hell my recipe might be healthier than half the shit on PF Chang's menu.

It's amazing how many of you are severely misinformed about Chinese cuisine, but Americans will be Americans. If it's got more calories in one bite than a person's recommended daily calorie intake, they'll eat it.

I like their food.

That said, it's hit or miss on their martinis...which is far far more important than the ethnic authenticity of their cuisine IMO.

Agreed. I like Taco Bell. I dont care if people think its not REAL Mexican food, its Taco Bell damnit!
