Hi,

Welcome to AnandTech. As per our guidelines, self-promotion is not allowed, so I had to remove the link to your own site and article.

"Passively, the Phanteks is comparable to the likes of the Noctua NH-C14, Prolimatech Megahalem [with 2 fans!] and Alpenföhn Matterhorn"

Wow, amazing.

The different color offerings is also a great idea since certain colors would appeal to those trying to color match their build (i.e., red, blue, etc.).

Looking at pricing though, I couldn't find what it would retail for in US.

Based on Vortez review:

Phanteks PH-TC14PE (79.90Euros/£70) for the silver edition and 84.90Euros (£75) for the coloured variants
Noctua NH-D14 (72.90Euros/£65)
Thermalright SA (49.90Euros/£50)

NH-D14 and SA often hover around $70-75 in US. If Phanteks can match that or even beat that, then we have a new top supercooler.

looks like it clears standard sized dimms ok.

ripjaws looks like it may be iffy with the third fan, and it extends what looks to be the first three or four slots on the x58.

at nearly 1kg with NO fans this thing is a monster. add three fans and the beast is unleashed.

What's the weight tolerance for a normal mobo pcb anyway? I'd be afraid of it breaking, especially if I had to move my rig from a to b.

Thermalright Ultra 120 Copper was 1900grams. So this is still ways away from there. Obviously, it's not recommended to move your case with such coolers. It only takes 15 min to take it off since the mounting design looks very simple.

If you order it from a german site it is 79.9 euros which equals about 114 dollars for the uncolored version 120 for color.

From eteknix review:

"RAM clearance is surprisingly good thanks to the flexible fan mounting method. If you own tall RAM such as Corsair Vengeance modules, you can simply lift the fan and clip it to the heatsink at a higher location."

Geez, and I just pulled the trigger on a Noctua D14... I haven't even received it from newegg yet. I really HATE those icky brown beige fans, and these look so much better, especially in blue. Performance seems to be a tiny bit better too. Nice to see new effective air coolers hitting the market.

bridito, this cooler is still not available in US and we don't know its price. It's better than the NH-D14 but not by 5-10*C. The Noctua also has some perks such as they will send you a bracket for a new socket for a cost of shopping should you choose to reuse it for future sockets (i.e., Haswell, etc.). Also, I doubt the best air cooler will arrive at the same price as the Noctua NH-D14, at least not in the beginning. With SA, NH-D14 and Phanteks, you are pretty much within 2-3*C, which I doubt is going to allow you to overclock further.

Yes, the reviews seem to show that there is a minimal improvement in temps over the NH-D14 but I have a humongo window on the side of my black case with blue LEDs and those Noctua "Earth Tone" fans are going to be a kick in the eye. I have seen a lot of cases and mods and I have yet to see one done up in wood tones, (what were you thinking, Noctua?) so my reservations are strictly cosmetic. I haven't even received the Noctua yet and I'm already poring over newegg's fan section to see what silent (and better colored) fans I can replace the standard ones with.

Just noticed this from the Vortez review. It looks like it extends further than most heatsinks. The problem is that adjusting the fan height will raise the overall height of the cooler so case compatibility might be an issue as a results.

The fan covers an additional three slots so tall memory modules will not fit. It is possible to shift the fan upwards. However, this increases the overall height of the cooler to over 170mm at which point the distance to the side case panel has to be taken into account. My advice would be to buy low profile memory modules.

i read and saw graphs that at stock it is minimally better than the NH-D14, at overclocked it did perform noticeably better though.
i saw somewhere say the US price is $89.99 MRSP

I don't think that when the specs for ATX cases were being drawn up that anyone expected that people would be trying to fit 140mm fans vertically over the mobo. I've specifically purchased (and still awaiting the shipment of) an X-Clio A380 which I'm going to mod extensively. The first change will be the repositioning of the huge side fan to an exterior mounting to free up some headroom for the NH-D14. I'm also plunking the HDs up by the PSU so I can ream out the incredibly ignorant placement of the blockade of metal which is supposed to be holding the HDs. The design puts the front 250mm fan in front of this metal wall so that it manages to cool absolutely nothing at all. You really have to wonder whether some engineers got their diplomas from the side of cereal boxes!

I'd love to get one of the new Phanteks (not so much for the extra cooling but for the colors) but I guess I'm stuck with Noctua browns. D:
