Phantom CPU

I have just built a new system for myself.Installed Windows, all drivers, updates, everything!
I even Installed a few programs and worked for a while on the computer.
Turned it off.
Came back couple of hours later. Tried to turn it on again and...
Not only it never got to loading Windows but as soon as the computer starts to scan hardware
it stops (not freezes. I'm still able to restart it with ctrl+alt+del) and on the screen... chaos of
white letters on black background moving from left to the right at an enormous speed.((Íå õó¸âî! À?!))
I was able to go in to BIOS and tried both "Fail-Safe defaults" and "Optimised Defaults"
Didn't help.
Only good it did that now computer actually scans for hardware for a little while and finds 3 things
Processor, primary master and secondary master.
Then it stops again and gives an error message. Here it is.
"CPU is unworkable or has been changed. Please rechek-CPU SOFT MENU"
and what interesting is that it detects CPU as an "AMD Athlon(tm) 1250MHz"
In reality. it's a 2000+ (at least that is what i stuck in there).
Please!

My system
XP 2000+
ABIT KR7A-133R
Corsair PC 2700 512MB DDR
REDEON 8500 64MB
two 40GIG Maxtor HDD in raid1

update your bios to the latest... if you haven't...
then it will work just fine...

i just built up a system containing a kr7a-raid and xp 2000+... .and it refused to work correctly before the bios update...
hope it works yo!

Ooops!
Before I had a chance to flash new bios I f***ed up my computer even more!!!
I desided that since it detects 2000+ CPU as 1250MHz it would make sense to
go in to the bios and there change setting which says that current system CPU is 2000+
to something more close to 1250MHz.
I did so.
I changed that setting to say that current CPU is1500+
Now it shows nothing but black screen.
I cant even get in to bios to change that setting back.
I am frustrated!!!!!

Check your motherboard manual on how to clear the bios.

Looks like you're running your CPU with a 100MHz FSB instead of a 133MHz FSB. Check the BIOS for a 133MHz (266MHz) FSB setting. The XP2000+ uses a 12.5 multiplier..

EDIT: On second thought it seems you have more problems than this. Maybe you have insufficient cooling from a badly installed HSF?

the kr7a-raid mobo doesn't support 2000+ amd xp's when you get it.. u have to flash bios first to get it to support that kinda cpu....
as i said... i did build 1 system with 2000+ and kr7a.... so i know


if you don't know how to clear bios...
maybe i can help you...
check on your mobo after the battery down the right corner... there is a jumper exactly over the battery... there are 3 pins... and the jumper is set on the 2 to the right i think... like this ... is how it's set now... if u move the jumper 1 step to the left ... like that.. and then just change it back to how it was before.
"..." = the pins and the underlined is the jumper... hehe... hope u know what i mean...
