Yeah I'm confused if its the Black Edition. The SKU on the site is listed as: HDZ555WFGMBOX.

The BE SKU written on the processor from Anand's review is: HDZ555WFK2DGM

Something fishy goin on here.

If you google the SKU on newegg there are other sites that come up that say it has an unlocked multiplier.

That + black box = pretty likely it's BE

Are there going to be any c3 550's? The 550 is a eol model while the 555 is the replacement model. I have yet to hear of anyone getting the c3 on a 550???

Jason

I don't think so, could be wrong but isn't the 555 mean to replace the 550? They're at the same price point, wouldnt make sense for AMD to build 2 chips.

My understanding is that the Phenom 550 will continue (lookee here at $92) but the 'C3' will not have an an locked cpu multiplier.

Not certain where a C3 '545' will fit in ...

Yeah I'm not sure but my guess is they will lower the prices on the current 550 BE and continue to sell them until the stock depletes. I don't see any reason to get a 550 instead of a 555 though. I mean its like < $10 difference for C3 revision and 100mhz faster cores.

I forgot to put NOT in my original question. Let me ask again. Say I bought 555BE and couldn't unlock extra cores. Would it still be a better choice than Athlon II X4 620? Price difference is negligible, less than $10.

Dunno, I think thats debatable. I would say yes because its a newer chip on the newest C3 revision.

Depends on what your daily tasks are. The Athlon II and Phenom II have slightly different target strengths.

Hello guys,
Mayur here.
I just bought the AMD Phenom II X2 555 BE from Mumbai, India.
It was priced at INR 5400. ($ 110).

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1026530

here is the cpuz validation. now i have it running for about 2 hours. I will be playing with it later on in the night (overclock). i have checked the Unlocking and Voila it works.......
I will include the tests and benchmarks in a later post.

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1026427

here is the B55 validation. I just had to change the ACC firmwire as Hybrid and I had the B55 Deneb. A true Quadcore at just $ 110. mwah mwah.....(Insane Laughter)
7.3 in Win 7

also I want some help from experianced guys. the CPU Fan fail warning beep is ringing whenever the Cpu is running at 100 %. what should I do?
what does it mean for my cpu? it does not matter if the CPu is at stock values or it is Unlocked to a Quad.
so please help me out before I go ahead and play with its overclocking...

Grats! Unlocking to quad is always fun.
Can you tell us your temperatures? Get a temp monitoring program like speedfan, coretemp, realtemp, something like that. Maybe the CPU is getting real hot when it runs at 100%.
edit: fairly certain you have a temps problem. Did you adjust voltages? It should not need 1.45v at 3.2Ghz I think... since you're using stock cooling, 1.45v is way too much for the stock fan.

Ok i have checked and found that I have set my hardware monitoring option in the bios limited at 60 deg cel. then I ran the Prime95 for about 15 minutes. The CPU was stable running at 100 % for 15 mins but the CPUid HWMonitor Pro showed me the temps recorded wre at and beyond 60 deg cels for 100 % load. this was with 2 cores only. i shudder to think what will happen at 4 cores.
I might have to get an after market cooler soon. if i want to play.
with the stock cooler as it was i am running 35 -40 idle temps (CnQ on). and 25-50 % load temps remain in the range of 45 deg cels.
i will test out the AS 5 High density after a couple of days after i am sure that I am not going to return this CPU.
Previously I had Athlon X2 3600+ running at 2350 MHz (1800 MHz stock). AM2 socket brisbane. It used to be running at 75 - 90% load in my normal operations. Now my normal Operations (4 Chrome windows with Mafia wars, 2 Firefox windows with Mafia wars, 1 opera window with 10 -15 Tabs anytime.and couple of downloads going on in Bitcomet.) it used to run at 45 - 50 deg celsius at these loads.
now my normal software are running currently and i am hardly going above 25 % in the cpu load and tems are stable at 40 deg cels.
so U guys tell me if I should go with Stock Cooler (PII) or should i use the Athlon cooler on PII? Or should I invest in a good after market cooler?
also what to do about the tempratures at 100 % load? should I exchange this CPU for something else? or Are these temps normal ?
I will begin running benchmarks soon after i get the temp warning increased to 70 deg cels..
any thoughts on what tests to run? @ stock values...
later we will test test the overclock.
ps: I got a stable boot @ 3.6 (mul @ 18)

I'd say it depends on what you value the most --- a higher overclock or 4 cores.

I got a 550 that unlocked and undervolted -.01v (image here) .... dropped my 100% load power at the wall by 1/3 (to 127w) and my temps were a stable 46-48c.

Personally since you've got one that unlocks I would not return it.
Temps lower than 68C are ok, 71C is the max and you really need to stay below that.

Since yours will unlock to quad, I think it would be worth it to invest in an aftermarket cooler.

Is your voltage set to auto? I still think 1.45v seems really high for full load....should be lower, anyone else agree?

Ok guys here are some of the first overclock + unlock results.

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1026864

just +200 MHz for now.
Sisoftsandra is the only Benchmark that i have ready.
it ran stable. an i was able to complete the processor arithmatic and Multi-Media benchmarks.

so what do you theink?
in comparison tables it is nearly same as Phenom II 965 BE at stocks.
and way better then 955 or Athlon 640.
but it falls short of Core i5 750.
sadly the CPU does not show any temps while in Quad core mode. so i am not going to trash it to its limits and i am going to stop the tests at 3.4 GHz. for now. i will see later on with a better cooler.
i am going to test dual core limits now.
if any one else has bought the CPU please post your results here will u?
i will try to post the model no. so it can help u guys decide.
Ps: also i lowered the voltage to 1.328v. i will try lower now.

I'm just popping in to confirm that the Newegg link on the previous page is a Black Edition, despite not being labeled as such. The UPS guy just came, and here's a picture of the box (apologies for the cameraphone).

It's going in a new build I'm just about to start on, so I can't share yet if the two disabled cores unlock. Fingers crossed!
